Sticking flashlight in mouth can be deadly

I took a pistol class last weekend and my instructor said he had seen two documented cases of people who had been using flashlights in their mouths, who had tripped, had the flashlight jammed down their throats and choked to death. He said he had also heard of a third case but not documented it yet. He said never put a flashlight in your mouth. Anybody else heard this? I do this all the time.

Most of the time I use a flashlight in my mouth I'm not walking anywhere, so I don't figure I can trip.

The story may be 100% true, but it sure reminds me of an urban legend. You might take a look a Snopes.com and decide for yourself.

I thought this thread was going to be another exploding lithium cells. Imagine if that happened with the light in your mouth! :poof:

I believe it.

It's actually a fairly common incident with a number of items. I remember seeing a case where a little boy fell and impaled the back of his throat with a toothbrush he had in his mouth..

Yes, it is possible to choke and quite probable that you may damage your teeth but you will definitely be adding loads of interesting bacteria and viruses into your body by holding a light in your mouth. Now I may not be an advanced Flashaholic but I don't think that too many of us clean and disinfect our lights on a daily, weekly, or even yearly basis. I don't know about you but I don't miss that lovely petroleum aftertaste from the mixture of oil and road dirt left on my flashlight that was allowed to roll around in the trunk or glove box after a tire change or some basic roadside maintenance.

I had basically givin up the idea of buying flashlights all together in favor of headlamps once they started going the way of the LED until I found quickbeams website which reintroduced the idea of a compact EDC. Now I can't imagine living without either but don't go trying to kiss me after sticking that thing in your mouth.:sick2:

+1

Happened to my little cousin over 20 years ago. It pierced his soft pallet and he had to get stitches. He's fine and is now a dad himself. Guess he won't be letting his kid run around with a toothbrush in the mouth.

Thats what I said!!!...a spin off of the famous "thats what she said".

I was actually just thinking about how nasty it must really be.
Oh well, some of the chicks I've made out with probably wern't much cleaner..:green:

Have you heard the one about the guy who was holding a light tactical style and tripped on a tree stump and the light went right through his eyeball? Yeah he's friends with my brother's friend's cousin's neighbor's coworker's brother in law's uncle.

Common sense always prevails, don't drink and drive, don't run with scissors, don't run in the kitchen with wet feet (take it from me, it's fun until you gash your head on a corner), don't lick alligator clips attatched to a car battery, don't jump on a trampoline with your finger in your nose. You get the point.

I'm going to continue to hold my E01 with my lips (toothless person style) and if I trip I WONT be landing on my face and will most likely spit the light out with the holy **** that usually comes with a suprise like tripping.

I bet if you swallowed an E01 accidentally, it would still be working when it came out the other end.

Any volunteers??
