Could we use a sticky for compiling thread size data used on various popular lights?

I recently bought a 7x12 lathe and have a few ideas for modifications of some lights. I find myself thinking that it'd be useful to have one place to go to find thread size info used on the various lights that many have already modded or made accessories for.

What do you think?

Re: Sticky for Thread Sizes Used on Various Lights

Roth has placed a sticky with pointers to threads of reference already. My suggestion would be for someone to start a thread with dimensional references. This thread should be kept to posts containing dimensions and related considerations only, IMHO. The "Common Dimensions" thread could then have a pointer placed in the reference sticky thread.

In addition to thread pitch information on commonparts, I would also suggest common battery dimensions, Common bore diameters of battery tubes, optic dimensions and what have you.

That's a very good idea. I can make parts now /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif but I have to have a sample of the host available to determine the threads and other dimensions.

I'll start the thread now.

For starters, I use both a metric and SAE pitch gauge and base my decision on the male part. After identifying the pitch, if it is SAE, I mic the OD and see if there is a fractional equivilant that is slightly larger in OD. If the thread is metric, I do the same thing and see if there is a Metric size that is just slightly larger in OD of the measured part. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon3.gif

Thanks Don - I didn't know about it.

I've looked, but I can't seem to find that link - can someone point me to it, please?
