Got my Strion yesterday, and charged it up per instructions. Actually left it in cradle all night. In AM voltage just off charger was 4.12, I thought it should be higher. I used it all day today, any excuse to discharge battery till it turned off, per LiIon specs. I then recharged and it took over three hours till light starged blinking, manual says 2.5 hours, indicating that charge was through. Voltage read 4.05. I put it back in for an hour or so, and rechecked and voltage read 4.08. I put it back, for another hour plus, and am now going to recheck. (Shaking from ancicipation) It now reads, 4.09. Isn't battery supposed to read at about 4.20 volts? Strion owners, or other informed persons, please respond. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi Bullzeyebill, It similar to my strion. Volt of li-ion should not exceed 4.2 volt after charge for safe use. First time charged might get a little bit long time. Anyway it should not more than 3-4 hours. Did you measure the run time use.?
 
I know about 4.2 volt limit, but mine is not approaching that threshhold. I just checked the voltage after being on charger all nite, and it reads 1.12 volts. Initial charge, 3+ hours, only showed 4.05. See first post. Has anyone measured voltage after initial charge? You can measure voltage two ways, at battery with battery removed, or at two charging points just below bezel, with battery in flashlight. I had used it for about one hour before it turned off yesterday.

Bill, dunno if this is what you're seeing, but....

Lithium ion batteries have gotten very popular in the radio-control model aircraft hobby, due to their long run time and ability to hold a charge much longer than nicads. But they absolutely do NOT tolerate being overcharged, and will in fact explode and burn if overcharged at too fast a rate.

Mehtinks the supplied Strion charger has that in mind??? As in, deliberatly undercharging to prevent a possible catastrophe? No kidding, li-ons and li-polys are spectacular when they let go. Do a search for li-ons and li-polys on www.rcuniverse.com and www.runryder.com for some grisly pix... keep in mind that most of the ones I know about are a direct result of the modeler not taking the time to learn about his new batteries, and using charging techniques (i.e., quick-charging) that the li-ons will not handle.

I looked at a Strion cell today; it is larger than the AA size r/c flyers are using. Dunno if that makes a differnce, but this is new battery technology for sure.
 
The STrion uses a 3.6V lamp. The specs you're getting sound fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks, for help. The LiIon seems to be like the 168A Pila and as long. I have charged three times, and it goes to 4.12 when left on the charger overnite. Very nicee flashlight, the Strion. You can run fairly dim if you screw down tailcap slowly. It will hold the dim position. Screwing down all the way brings lite to full volume.

I got the Strion when they first came out last May. I used mine the first couple of weeks, but since then, it has been sitting in the charger.

So, after 5 months of sitting in the charger, my battery reads 4.02 volts.

I can see that my charger will charge up to 4.12 volts if left in the charger over nite, and reads about 4.05 when charged after some use and charger lite starts to blink. Maybe over time and after several charging/discharge cycles the battery will charge up to 4.20 volts. The charger cradle notes that the voltage out is a "regulated 4.20 volts".
