hello all. I do not know if this is the right place but here goes.

I have some blank sunglasses lenses that I need cut to fit various frames or replicate existing lenses.

realizing that CPF is composed of varied talented people maybe someone out there does this sort of stuff. Please shoot me a PM. Thanks.

Depending on the matertial, it might be as simple as using a grinder to grind to the right shape.

The pro shops do it with CNC cutters. The old ones used a tracing arangement. ( saw it on discovery channel).

Thanks 65535, It is getting difficult to get somebody who still does that kind of work.

The edge is not a straight cut, in order to fit into the frame and stay there it has a 'V' shaped edge. There are special machines to this kind of work.

And - if these are prescription lenses, they have to have the centers of the lenses match the distance of your pupils ( PD measurement )

The rimless lenses have a groove cut into the edge for the nylon line.

You can make a grinder to make a v-shaped edge from a dremel tool.

The dremel has a router attachment that can be fastened upside down. You can use a single point diamond dressing tool (less than $20) to carve a groove in a grindinbg wheel, then slowly run the edge of the lens against that as it spins.

I did a similar job when doing some plastic parts to guard a computer switch.
