A friend emailed me a link to this HID/LED Flashlight earlier this week; as awesome as 3000 lumens sounds, $6k for a flashlight?! I just can't justify that! Though, since it specifically says it takes a military battery (or two), I supposed that I'm paying for it anyhow, in some form or another.

Can someone in the armed services bring me on of these home?

Don't some holics in this forum have hellfighters?

DeFabricata... sorry I forget how to spell his name exactly. search "hellfighter" and you can see whos got one.

MaxaBeam and Polarion HIDs are equally impressive though... IMHO.

Theres also the Cebela's XPG. Doesn't have the military heritage of the SF, but still I think it would make a great mod host.

As Monocrom stated, the rebranded G&P Cabelas XPG is not a quality product. I suppose it could make a solid host for some project but it's a rather expensive shell that still isn't waterproof. Too bad G&P either couldn't or wouldnt resolve the issues with this light. It's not bad looking, being that the body design was an obvious copycat of the Hellfighter.

oh yikes... I hadn't realized that.

thanks for the info. Still might make a nice mod host, but not at $600 IMHO.

Maybe we could go "halves" on a case of them Kestrel. :p

I've always liked the HellFighter and respect the manufacturer even though this light remains out of my price range. It would probably be possible to stretch my pennies and sacrifice other lights to acquire the HellFighter but the fact that it doesn't have its own internal power source is a big damper to anyone not using it while attached to a vehicle or fixed station. From a practical standpoint most outdooring types like myself really need to have "on board power" for a light to be classified as a useful tool. Portability and mobility is the only way to fly when you're a mere sportsman on the move. You may be getting in and out of different vehicles, onto and atv, or you may have to stow it in a pack while on foot or away from motorized vehicles. I would guess that if I owned a HellFighter it would be just a collector's novelty item and not something that I'd be putting to practical use. Perhaps that's part of the reason why so many of them are sold after a short time...dunno.

SF had the right idea with the BeastII but despite the fact that most owners love their Beast's, I still feel that it's a bit large for most convenient uses as a civilian. I'm still hopeful that the SF ARC series will eventually morph from vaporware to retail reality but given that we haven't heard a peep about it lately I don't think I'll hold my breath. Also, given the historical price point of SF products and their HID lights specifically, it would be an amazing revelation if they were able to produce something that could match the performance of Polarion models at a similar price. It's still fun to anticipate though. :)

I have purchased Hellfighters for well under $1K on eBay.
Also fitting them with a portable power source (ie. strapped to the bottom rail) is a non issue. This makes the overall package size very attractive. The reflector of the HF is both capable of throw and flood making it one of the most versatile setups I own (trust me I have enough lights for comparison). As there are plenty of threads on CPF discussing the various merits of different HIDs I will stop my comments here. Cheers.
