Got a friend who has a Surefire 6P and would like to get some rechargables for it along with a charger. Does anyone on here have any recommendations? It has not been modded in any way and he said he was not interested in any, but is tired of buying batterys for it.

Thank you in advance.

Surefire B65 and the A14 adapter.

SF used to sell this kit as the 6R -- it was my first Surefire. I got it around 1992.

Well...they are, IMHO, the *best* alternative. Others will probably say to get some rechargeable 123's and use that, but I find the B65 works fine.

You can get them many places...opticshq.com would be where I'd check. If you look in the dealers' section on here, there are instructions on a CPF discount from them. They are good people.

Here is the link to the kit from them...

That is their regular price...the CPF price is significantly lower, but I don't think I'm supposed to list it here. The picture there is of the Nitrolon version for the G2, but the one for the 6P should be a metal adapter.

Lighthound.com may have them or be able to get them...he's great also.

I have a friend who has used the ULtralast RCR123 3.0 V batteries for about a year now. He did recently blow a new P60 lamp assembly, but he's not sure if it was caused by running the batteries hot off the charger, or if he just got a bad lamp assembly (he bought it off eBay.) Generally he said there is usually an hour or more gap from the time that the batteries come off of the charger and when they are actually used to power the light. These batteries(2) with a charger are $25 at one of local/regional chains. You can get them from frys.com or look in various shopping engines for this combo package, the Ultralast brand seems to have been picked up by a lot of web merchants.

Do be aware that your run time will be about half or less with the rechargeables than with the primary batteries.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Did you happen to carry the 6P holster with the orginal 6P? If so once you added the extender did you need to have a new holster? The friend I refer to is a Police officer and I do not know if the extra length would make it hard for him to carry? Also did it happen to make the light brighter? If so how much did it increase the lums? How was the run time on the batterys?

P.S. I want to help him out, but don't want to set him up with something he would be unhappy with...He does carry a loaded gun LOL

Muleskiner, I have the original kit for the 6P. Send me a Private Message if your interested in it.

Mule, I just sent you a PM. You can take a look at the Surefire rechargeable kit for the 6P on their website.

If you are starting from scratch, I wouldn't bother buying the Surefire conversion kit to make it rechargable ($84). I have had several of these over the years. They are still not a bad solution and work well but have been overshadowed by newer technology.

You would be much better off spending your money on two 17500 li-on batteries with the Charger and an A19 adaptor for around the same price ($82-$85). You will get a much better rechargable system that will power a P90 bulb. Of course you would have to also buy a P90 bulb ($20).

Get an A19 adaptor
Get two AW 17500 li-on batteries
Get an AW battery charger
Get a P90 bulb

The light will be shorter than the Surefire rechargable kit (6R) you are considering, power a brighter bulb (P90 at 105 lumens vs P60 at 65 lumens) and have the same runtime.

The SF NiCd kits do make the light quite a bit longer.

You have 2 easy ways staying the same length;

a 3.7v Lamp assembly & a protected 17670 with a charger

or a P90 lamp assembly plus 2 x R123a's

I have both of these set up and can confirm that they both work well (all my above kit (apart form the P90) has come from AW here on CPF, if you have a look in the dealer sales bit you will see threads for the batteries, chargers and 3.7v lamp)

AW's new protected R123A's run a P90 or a G&P G90 very well on a single click.
