HI, I am looking at purchasing a Surefire E1B or E1L Outdoorsman 2nd gen adn the only thing keeping me from getting the E1L is the belt clip. I like how the clip on the E1b allows you to point the bezel down while in your pocket, etc.

Can you get a clip like the one that is on the E1B and put it on the E1L ?

Thanks
Joe

I'm pretty sure some folks here on CPF have already swapped the clips. But last I also read here, getting the E1B style clips from SureFire as an accessory wasn't possible yet.

Yes, you can put the E1B clip on the E1L, but that clip is a premium item, and you'll find more people looking than selling.

If you do get a spare E1B clip though, send it to me and I will field test it for you for a year or 2 to make sure it works :nana:

And finally..... :welcome:

Thanks for the quick reponses. From my searching it seems as though the cheapest places to get these lights are LaPoliceGear.Com, unless you guys know something I don't

I also don't see a spot for a lanyard on the E1B.

This is my first EDC , thoughts on which one I should go with ? I was also looking at the NovaTacs, but they seem a little pricier, although I like the NovaTac Storm, but it doesn't seem to be available.

There is no spot for a lanyard on the stock E1B. But you can add a different SF tailcap (Z68) that would give you room for one:

The E1B is a great light. It was $110 last year but the price has been raised to $149 by SF. You can still find it online for the lower price if you look around.

The Novatacs are really nice lights, too. I just picked up a EDC-85T from Lighthound (on sale for $73).

LAPoliceGear is the cheapest I've found too. This might interest you too--here.

I've owned my E1B since around March 2008 IIRC and it is still one of my favorites. The clip is really what makes the E1B!

If I didn't already have an E1B, me debate would be between the E1B and L1 though, not the E1L due to the L1's awesome user interface. It gives you instance access to either low or high. Push in for low; press all the way for high. Plus the L1 comes with a lanyard. Drawbacks: the L1 doesn't have the E1B clip (same problem at E1L), and it's about 0.5" longer than an E1B. If you can wait (who knows how long you might be waiting :D), the L1 is being updated this year (will be call LX1) and the current specs put it about the exact same length as the E1B and will include the awesome E1B style clip). See here for pictures. I will probably pick up the new LX1 when it comes out (even with owning an E1B). Just something to think about

Good luck!

I'm digging that EDC-85T (especially the PRICE) :twothumbs
I just may bite the bullet on that one.

There are sporadic problems or QC issues with some of the Novatacs listed here on CPF, and my 85T that I got last week does exhibit occasional flickering, but so far I am keeping my eye on it (doesn't seem to last beyond two or three quick flickers). Even if you did have an issue, Novatac has a lifetime warranty. The tint of the LED is somewhat warm (a bonus) and you can unlock the 85T series to become effectively an 85P thanks to a backdoor programming sequence. For the price, I'm glad I got it. I haven't even changed the programming just because the pre-programmed light levels are useful enough.

In my opinion... fit and finish of SureFire is to me, a little better, but the Novatacs are pretty dang close. Ease of use belongs to SureFire, but Novatac isn't far behind here, either. SureFire is a little more of the "K-i-s-s" theory while Novatac has a few more choices/customization.

Good luck whatever light you decide on. (Or just take the flashaholic route and get both!)

The E1b dual mode will be for Sale for $99 delivered. Free shipping, but it did take 5 days for me in California to get.

I got their 2009 catalogue and the price appears to be fixed at $99.99

Also, they offer LEO discounts just mention it when you order.

+1 for the E1B
I carried it since I got it about 8mths ago, have now got myself a new Clicky and the Backup has been relegated to exactly that, a backup...
Can't recommend it higher though, awesome throwy (is that a word) beam. And the clip really made it for me =D

You'll love it!

Two quite different lights. I have and love both, but for different applications:

E1B: very bright, high comes first, adequate companion to CCW, cool clip. Slippery unless you add a Z68, but then it looses it's slimness...

E1L: long runtimes, low comes first, suitable for outdoors/preparedness/general use. Feels smaller, yet grippy.

I tend to think of them as kid sisters to the E2DL and E2L. The brightest has high coming in first, the longest runner starts in low mode. One is black, the other is grey.

I have both the E1B and E1L. They are about the same brightness on high according to my eyes. I think I just got a really bright E1B, because it should be noticably dimmer. The E1B is a little slippery in hand, but is easier on your clothes, and has the 2-way clip. I like both of them. I think the things to consider is how you are going to carry it (in your pocket vs. belt holster),(pocket-E1b, belt holster-E1L) and which mode you want to come on first (low or high). If you want low first, go for the E1L. High first, then the E1B is the one for you.
Both are really good lights.

I have the e1l and like it for it's longer run time.

That was my original intention for the E1L. Basically a long running light to back up the E1B Backup! I like that low comes on first. It would seem that would help save the battery just a little bit by not having to go to it's highest level every time I turn it on (using more electricity) when all I might need is just a little light.

Hmmm may have to shop around and find a cheap price on the E1L, the long runtimes sound rather enticing... :twothumbs

I think I may wait though as to what the next light I get is... I've got my eye on the (at this stage Vaporware) A2L, the (Rumoured) Minimus; a small headlamp, and the L1X (or LX1 I forget :ohgeez:) so whats another surefire to add to the list... now if only I wasn't so :broke::sigh: LOL

Moka, be sure to check out LAPolicegear.com. They have competitive prices, and I think they have a 15% off sale that ends soon. They may also offer free shipping if I remember correctly. And they give free Battery Station batteries with most lights. I think I recieved 8 free ones in addition to the ones installed in the light by Surefire.

I never did figure out why people like to clip their light bezel down so it never did bother me...but if I do buy a E1B remind me to swap clips with you.

Thanks for the info... But as a poor Australia Student, who only works part time (and just bought a Clicky and a couple of other things for my birthday) I won't be getting much for a while... lol
Unless the exchange rate REALLY picks up...
