Hi, I bought a Surefire E2D Defender about a week ago brand new. I was amazed at how bright this thing was! I haven't used it much.. I'd say around 5 minutes of use altogether, but I have noticed it has dimmed quite significantly. It still is bright but doesn't compare like before. I'm wondering if this is normal... or maybe a problem with the batteries?
Thanks in advanced,
Brian

This might sound stupid, but, are you sure the "dimmer" light is not just the 5 lumen low mode you get after a second click?

What happens when you do 2 clicks - do you see a difference between the two modes?

Not yet but I plan to. I'm not sure where to buy these kind of batteries locally so I think I'll order them online.. they'll be cheaper anyways. Hopefully it'll fix the prob

Thanks for the site! Unfortunately they don't ship to Canada:( I tested the light out tonight and it's even dimmer than last night!

Until you get a fresh set of batteries, you might want to try cleaning the contacts and maybe fiddle with the spring - there might be gunk blocking the contact or the spring might not be making enough contact...

Good luck!

CaPpedDoG, you say that you have a E2D Defender. The E2D only has single output, the LED (E2DL) version has high and low. If it's gone down a quarter in brightness or even up to a half, then thats normal, otherwise only after 5 minutes of use, could also be a faulty LA. I'd give SF a call and explain your situation.

I took it apart and it's all clean. SureAddicted, it is the LED version. What is an LA? I emailed SureFire yesterday so I should have a response soon

Until you get your hands on some new batteries,do you have another light that takes 123 batteries? Put them in it and see what kind of output you get.

OP may have a point, my E2D Incan seems to use batts more on average than the rest of my lights, my E2D is EDC sometimes not even used for months and the batteries seem to drain. All batts drain but it just feels like its drains at a higher rate than my other lights.

Is this what you have???

Unfortunately I do not have another flashlight that takes 123a batteries. This is my first high-end quality flashlight I have purchased. Hell Light, my flashlight is different. It is the E2D LED Defender. I should have posted that in my first post, but I didn't realize there were 2 different versions. Mine is the one with High Output and Low Output

It might look clean, but is not clean. Search on cleaning and lubing lights.

You would need new batteries or a light meter to test brightness. Could be you perceived it was brighter and nothing really changed

Don't do anything until you get new batteries.

It's a new surefire....the contacts aren't corroded, the lamp assembly's not defective, and I'm sure the spring is fine.

Let's not overcomplicate this.

Get some new batteries and enjoy your light.
