For whatever it's worth, I like the original E1 and E2. I carry the E1 with the KL1, and the E2, side by side in a "pouch," so accidental activation is not a problem. The hex feature is not important to me, and since I don't use the clips at all, I removed them. To date, I have not had any problems with the lexan lens (but I am not a "rough" user). Also, the lock-out tailcap adds a "tad" more length to the light, and since I want the smallest size possible, the original E versions work for me. BUT, your use and preferences are probably different, so pick what works for you--they're all great lights.
By the way, if you're thinking of getting two lights (E2/E2e and a G2), may I suggest the E2/E2e and one of SureFire's three cell lights (C3, M3, etc.) instead? That will give you a wider range of lighting power, from 60 lumens (E2/E2e), up to 200-225 lumens with the optional high output lamp for the three cell models. Very pricey, yes, but if you're a flashaholic, I don't think you'll regret it.
