Surefire E2E vs G2 beam

Just wondering how the beams of the E2E and G2 compare. Are they identical? I recently picked up a G2 Nitrolon but I'm not as impressed as I thought I'd be. I wish the focus was a little wider, or at least the spillbeam was brighter. I tend to use flashlights for walking, hiking and looking around outdoors at night, so I usually prefer something between a spot and a flood. I was thinking of trying the E2E with the MN02 lamp to get longer runtime and because I don't always need 65 lumens, but if it's the same exact beam, the Surefires may not be what I'm looking for. Thanks for any tips.

The MN02 has a wider flood than the P60, but similar spot characteristics. I'm not sure if the flood is brighter, but it's an eminently usable combination. The wider spill should better light up things at your feet while throwing its beam down the trail.

The MN03 throws a nice tight blast of light, but not what I would call a spot beam. If the P60 is too tight but otherwise ideal, the MN03 is probably what you want (and it runs a little longer, too!).

If you want a nice flood, consider buying a $12 diffuser instead of another light. Granted you'll love the E2, but both could be equipped (and especially the G2, should be) with a diffuser to make for a nice fan-beam for up close work.

Anybody have beamshots comparing these two lights? Would be great to see the difference. Would also would be neat to see the difference between the MN02 & MN03 bulbs. Thanks!

I've never personally used a G2, but knowing that it is just a P60 drop-in I think I can speak to both beams.

The E2E beam is, as described above, a nice spot with a huge flood because of the very shallow reflector. The flood is has got to be about 160 degrees

The P60 drop-in has a deeper reflector, a slightly larger spot and much smaller flood (maybe around 60-75 degrees).

Because of the smaller flood size in the P60 the flood is brighter in relation to that of the spot when compared to the bigger but dimmer flood of the E2E.

In general the smaller 19mm reflector of the E2e will cause the beam to be floodier than the 26mm reflector of the P60 lamp assembly in the G2. However this is not always the case, it depends most on the level of orange peel in the reflector. I've seen many examples from one extreme to the other over the years. I have some E-series heads that are more throwy than the typical P60 lamp assembly and some that are more floody.

Check this thread for some MN02 & MN03 beamshots. The MN02 shot was with one of my more throwy E-series heads.
