I just went to Home Depot to get a new set of 123's, my one week old G2 was fading a bit it seemed.
I got to my truck and put in the new batteries to check it out, it wasn't fading as much as I thought so I put the original surefires back in.
Once home I pulled out my light (as I do a hundred times a day) and hit the button to see my already lit up wall..
NO LIGHT!
I put the new Duracels in and it works fine.. Was it something I did?
one cell is 2.49v the other is 2.51v is that too low to power this little fella up?
If it is, what do I do with partially depleted cells?

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Get yourself an LED flashlight to use up the last bit of juice in those depleted batteries.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Yes. As far as the Surefire lamps are concerned, your batteries are dead. There is nothing wrong with your light.

No need to be concerned. This is just a good example scenario to illustrate the value of always keeping fresh batteries available.

Your depleted 123 cells can be used however to feed some other lights such as the Inova X5T.

Happy trails.

Surefire problems?

There are no Surefire problems... just Surefire user problems. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I've found that the Inova X5T is one of the very best LED lights at depleting 'used' 123 batteries. After the G2 is done with them, they are still good for hours of use in the X5T.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Just remember what surefire incans are for. They are for tactical, when you need a bright light with throw, need to light an area up, need to light someone up etc. They are not to good as a general purpose light. Thats what leds are for. Better run time etc.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

A CR123 cell can be dead at 2.9 volts! It all depends upon how many amps it delivers. Once my 123's sink below about 5 "flash amps" I expect them to fail without notice. Carry extras ANY time you might depend on your light.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Its true. I collect my old bats and use my X5 with them. It is a GREAT light. Especially if you are a camper who likes to read in his tent. Use the G2 to light up your surroundings and later use the depleted batteries in the Inova X5 to read. It works great!

See... this is a problem. Now that I have a few CR132 lights, I'm accumulating a pile of almost-dead batteries. Now I have to buy an X5 to keep them from going to waste. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif

Hmmm, let me rephrase that... Now I have an excuse to buy an X5 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

I see the X5 is an affordable light, so it has become next on my list (right after the L4).
The Batteries I bought (duracell ultra) were $20, the G2 is $40.. So it is almost economical to buy another G2 for its batteries... Right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Call Dan at Tactical Warehouse.
He has inexpensive 123s as well.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Oh if you're shopping at Batterystation, I'd pick up a Tektite Splashlite Led instead of the X5t. Nothing against the X5t at all, i have one and I love it. Its just that at 2.2V or so, on either batteries, the X5t can't power it up anymore, but the Splashlite Led still puts out some light thats comparable to an Arc AAA.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

The Surefire G2 and Inova X5.... great lights!

The X5 UV is what pushed me over the edge from buying flashlights for outdoor and emergency use to buying them for their own sake and then finding uses for them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif. I needed a UV light and the X5 UV looked like the most affordable quality one I could find at the time (I've since found others). Once I had it I was so impressed by it that I just *had* to get the white version. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The G2 is a great little package, really handy, small enough to stash in all kinds of places, and extremely bright for its size.

It's good to know that these two lights can function together to get the most out of lithium cells.

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

Great suggestions on lights to finish off my 123's, thanks guys.. The problem is that I will probally have to get one of each..

Re: Surefire G2 problems?

I did the same thing when I had my first SF, which was a G2.
"Light doesn't work? Bad bulb? Can't be the batteries. It didn't even get yellow first."

In my case, something more prosaic- cat urine indoors. I wanted something bigger than a mini-LED so I could illuminate large areas at once.
