I'm brand new to the forum, and a relatively new flashlight enthusiast. I have two Surefire KL4 heads, one with an early serial number (without the FC on the bezel below the CE), and one with a much later number(with the FC). The beam of the one without the FC is much "creamier" (less white) in color, and also less intense, than the one with the FC. Does anyone wish to hazard a guess whether or not the one without the FC is defective, or whether Surefire made some improvements, to which the FC is witness?

Thanks!

You're a victim of Luxeon Lottery, as we all are. The FC is, I think, an FCC class certification for radiated emissions of RF energy. It bears no relevance to the quality or quantity of light output. Unless one light is much dimmer than the other, then I would guess it's not defective. I also don't believe Surefire made any improvements with regard to anything else. The FC is just an extra stamp of approval for anyone requiring it.

I dont know about eh FC label but even my contact lens case has the same CE label on it that the L4 has!!!! Go figure

Just a normal (at this time) variation in the manufacturing of the Luxeon Star Led.

One of Luxeon's highest priorities is to reduce those variations to a minimum.

You should be. PK thought enough of you to put you right on the KL4 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

Uh I thought the new "Caution Hot Surface" text with universal symbol was for FC? I believe there is a little c inside the big C so the label is FCC. Then again it may be FC see? Humm.....

Not on the subject any more... but the "FC" is the hip, new FCC logo - and of course that should have nothing to do with the quality of the light.

Wow, haven't seen FC around in ages! Howdy.

Hi Guys,

I am new to CPF and I am curious on what the KL4 is all about. A search in Surefire's website is negative and under LED category it produces only KL1, KL2, & KL3 which is what I have, L4 Lumamax is the closest I get here. Please enlighten me.

The KL4 is the bezel end of the L4. The L4 is really an E2e (with a new click on/off tailcap), but with the KL4 bezel on it. Much like putting the KL1 on an E2e/E1e body. The KL4 however, uses a 5w LS, not the 1w LS used in the KL1.

Thank you Kev1-1,

Now I am clear. Is there any forums where I can get hold of literature regarding the latest range from Surefire? I am staying in Singapore and support for Surefire products is very bad.

Regards,
Andy Ho
