I just received my new Surefire M3 Combatlight with Crenelated Strike Bezel tonight, fresh from the factory. It is beautifully made, well-balanced, and floats in my hand.
I took this new Surefire M3 directly from the UPS facility to the deep mountain woods, after testing the Surefire MN10 Lamp Assembly, and then carefully installing the Surefire MN11 HOLA. It was a quiet, dark night.
The thing about using a Surefire M3 for night hiking, is that it is to be used as a tactical light. You keep the light with lanyard strapped to your wrist, and use a low-light such as the Surefire L2 on low to walk the trail. The Surefire M3 is pressed into action only when a huge boost of powerful light is needed. This option provides for a great sense of security to the user, despite the heavy darkness.
In my opinion, after having owned the M3T at one time, I believe the 2.5" Turbohead is better balanced with the M6 Guardian. The smaller 1.62" bezel fits the M3's body perfectly. It is so well balanced that it was like I was not holding any light at all.
If any of you fellow CPF'ers are considering getting the ultimate flashlight, I would highly recommend the Surefire M3. UPDATE 2/18/07: I have discovered that Steven at Spyder Tactical Supply is a great source for Surefire lights. I bought two more Surefires from him instead of from the Surefire website.
That is my Surefire experience to share with you. Thank you.
