I just received my new Surefire M3 Combatlight with Crenelated Strike Bezel tonight, fresh from the factory. It is beautifully made, well-balanced, and floats in my hand.

I took this new Surefire M3 directly from the UPS facility to the deep mountain woods, after testing the Surefire MN10 Lamp Assembly, and then carefully installing the Surefire MN11 HOLA. It was a quiet, dark night.

The thing about using a Surefire M3 for night hiking, is that it is to be used as a tactical light. You keep the light with lanyard strapped to your wrist, and use a low-light such as the Surefire L2 on low to walk the trail. The Surefire M3 is pressed into action only when a huge boost of powerful light is needed. This option provides for a great sense of security to the user, despite the heavy darkness.

In my opinion, after having owned the M3T at one time, I believe the 2.5" Turbohead is better balanced with the M6 Guardian. The smaller 1.62" bezel fits the M3's body perfectly. It is so well balanced that it was like I was not holding any light at all.

If any of you fellow CPF'ers are considering getting the ultimate flashlight, I would highly recommend the Surefire M3. UPDATE 2/18/07: I have discovered that Steven at Spyder Tactical Supply is a great source for Surefire lights. I bought two more Surefires from him instead of from the Surefire website.

That is my Surefire experience to share with you. Thank you.

Surefire LLC is for real.:buddies:

Re: SF M3 - CB

Got my M3-CB two weeks ago and I couldn't agree with you more. It is one totally awesome light. Congrats on the purchase. You're really gonna like it.

Enjoy your new awesome light!!! so you are using your HOLA now ? flashing it ?

Yes, I have found the proper way to use the Surefire HOLA MN11 LA is to keep it off until you need to see something, then you flash it. Incredible light. Incredible company. I sent Pelican two praise feedback messages through their website and never got any reply. I sent Surefire a single praise feedback message last night and Mr. Gabe Steinmann, Surefire E-Commerce Specialist, responded today.

BTW, I secretly lit up the ceiling of my coworker's cubicle. I've done it several times before with my Pelican 2390 with no reaction... today I did it with the M3-CB and he immediately said, "Whoa, what was that?" Another coworker several cubicles over asked, "What was what?" And he said, "Something just happened to the lighting. Like everything went dim or something." Wow, the Surefire M3 Combatlight didn't just get his attention, it was so bright it made everything else go "dim".

Okay, I guess that's what a bad guy sees when our good guys go busting in with Surefire flashing and guns drawn. :lolsign:

Re: SF M3 - CB

I have been wanting a M3 for awhile. Think that will be my next light. Good writeup.

Re: SF M3 - CB

Iv'e had my M3-CB :grin2: for about a year now and I love how it looks and handles not to mention the throw.

It's a really nice light and now I'm using AW's (6) 17500 Li-ions and the Ultrafire charger for free lumenicities!

I like my 6P as my EDC too, lol

Ahh. Another pleased M3 owner. I too feel that the balance of the M3 is outstanding and it is also my very favorite all around light. MN11 is great. Congrats!

Have you tried the 17500's with the MN11? If so, are you able to light up the high output lamp with them without double clicking? Thanks.

Re: SF M3 - CB

My MN11 needs a double click with AWs high current 17500s, MN10 is normal

Re: SF M3 - CB

Guys,

I have one M3-CB with scalloped bezel (not strike agressive one) in the air, comming to daddy! :naughty:

I can't wait. The M3 is one of the most, if not THE most good looking light in Surefire's product line IMO. It's agressive, relatively compact yet very balanced. Also, it doesn't have a lousy pocket clip, which is the only thing that I don't like in SF flashlights.

Also, I asked AW if it was safe to use two 17500 li-ion to power up the MN11. He replied this LA draws 2.5Amps, which is just over 2C and thus on the edge. Should be used with care me think. Thoughs?

The MN10 draws 1.3Amps only, works great and safely with 2x17500. I think I'll stick with the longer runtime

One last question : can the M3 body be bored out to accept 18500 batts? If yes, how thick will be the weakest part of the tube?

Re: SF M3 - CB

Yes it can, Plenty of material, I have one bored out with a detonator and 2x18650. If you think the mn11 is bright on primaries, wait 'til you put in the 18650's.

Re: SF M3 - CB

The M3/M3T are the prettiest to look at, both the beam and the body. Love the shape, love the feel

The "-CB" refers to the Crenelated Bezel aka StrikeBezel.
Without the "-CB" it is the standard scalloped bezel.

I agree- the M3 and M3T are very attractive lights

Re: SF M3 - CB

I have a different understanding.
We have two lights :
- M3-HA : plastic bezel ring and a different bezel (like the one on the M2 me think)
- M3-CB : metal bezel ring, available in two versions : agressive (crenelated) or scalloped

Well, I dunno who's right... Anyway I have the confirmation from the seller that the bezel is the metal scalloped version, which is what I wanted :)

Re: SF M3 - CB

I believe like Al says the standard bezel used to be flat, now it has slight teeth, like the standard M6. The CB is most definitely only the heavy crenulated version.

Re: SF M3 - CB

I am right ;)

The "M3" bezel style has changed like half a dozen times over the years.

Currently there are two versions:
Scalloped (standard)
Crenelated (-CB)

You are right that in the past a plastic retaining ring was used instead of the current scalloped metal retaining ring.

This is the case for the Millennium TurboHead as well.

Re: SF M3 - CB

I see, if the plastic version is discontinued, makes it more understandable

So, I have a M3 not CB in the air!
Come to daddy :naughty:
