Surefire M4 Question

Happy New Years to all - hope 2006 brings you all the lumens you could ever want.

Now on to my question. Has anyone played around with shimming the head/buld assembly on a Surefire M4 to achieve a tighter beam? I would like to be able to get something like a 10 foot diameter hot spot at 100 yards or so and was wondering if this is possible with the M4.

Nope I can't help with that but I am wondering what you think the hot spot is at 100 yards with a stock M4 and do you see a change in the size of it when using the MN60 and MN61 or is it the same? Shimming the lamp would do something not sure what.

Not sure on the hot spot size - I will try to run outside and estimate when the rain dies down. Will post a follow up later.

All right - my highly unscientific method using my semi-calibrated half blind eyes puts my guess at about ~30 feet diameter at ~100 yards with no real difference between the 2 bulbs.

And upon further thinking - I would like to get a spot that is about 5 feet in diameter at 100 yards. I have been toying with the idea of buying a Magcharger or Streamlight Strion/TL-3 to get a more concentrated spot.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I do have a SL TL-3 and a Mag charger, I really do not think either of them will drop a five foot beam at 100 yards. Sorry I am not much help sounds like you want a fat laser beam.
