Well...I guess it throws too much to be considered a Mule, but it's close.

It's "Nearly Headless," another Milky Mod.

Here, Milky took an otherwise innocent Surefire L1, and cut off the top two-thirds of its head. He then shoe-horned a Sten reflector and a K2-TFFC emitter inside, along with a MadMax+. The 'head' end is finished off with a Titanium bezel ring and a mineral glass lens with LDF.

The other end sports a 2-stage switch with a 30 Ohm low, and an Oregon Shooter tail guard.

"Nearly Headless" is quite a powerful light for its size, running at ~900mAH on high with a single RCR123 cell. The beam on low is subtle, and on high can best be described as a Mule with throw. It's 4.25" LOA and can stand on either end.

Here, for scale, are a couple of shots with its big brother, a Milky 2xA123 X800, with 4xSSC P4s:

Couple things Donn didn't mention...

the head has three small rectangular labels instead of a single continuous one... and behind each label is a piece of high-efficiency glow tape, so in the dark the labels will be backlit in the same way a digital watch looks with its Indiglo electroluminescent feature...

also, the head is sealed behind a piece of teflon transparent heatshrink for wear abrasion and protection in general. :naughty:

NICE JOB MILKY!!!!!:twothumbs:bow::bow::bow::clap:

Donn, you really need to post a picture of your collection one of these days:poke:

Heres my Surefire Mule Wanna-be.....except its Bright As Hell!!!

I stuffed 3 Seouls in a KL4 with a Shark running them.
It COMPLETELY lights up a huge room, like someone flicked on the lightswitch!

Nice! Perhaps this light deserves it's own thread? I'd like to see more.

I am curious how beam pattern of this light compares with a beam of another Milky mode: ML1 "Floodmaster" ?
Does anyone had a chance to compare those two mods?
Thanks,

Mark

Mark, I don't have a side-by-side photo directly comparing the two... the beams are somewhat similar in that both have a soft hotspot... I'm thinking the Floodmaster is a little softer than that of the McR20-Sten reflector in the Nearly Headless. The Sten reflector also produces a much wider diameter of sidespill than the Floodmaster does.

Am I out of place here?

I'm not trying to trash Donn's thread or Milkys Amazing Work, I just thought since the title was "Surefire Mule" that this is just another take on a SF Mule.

I respect both members a Great Amount and mean absolutely no disrespect!

If I'm outta place here people, please let me know and I'll gladly erase my photo and post.

Thank you, Scott. This is the info I was looking for, and a complete answer for my question.

Shoot, no, I definitely didn't mean to imply that you were out of place; when I said that your mule deserved it's own thread I just intended it only as compliment, and nothing sinister. My bad for how I came across :ohgeez:

shroomy,

No big deal!! I misunderstood your intentions.:ohgeez:

Thank you for the compliment!

There actually is an old thead that I started, I just want to join in the fun and felt it was appropriate.:tinfoil::eek::wave:

This is one of the most well-mannered threads I've ever seen. Wish they were all like that! Here's to you guys...

(did I miss anyone?) ;)

DaFABRICATA,

It's definitely appropriate :twothumbs:
I just Just found the thread, awesome job  I really like the heatsink that fits into the reflector, that's pretty creative IMO.
But uh.. your beamshots are down.... :poke: :D

And, Awesome Job Milky, I can't wait to see some beamshots of nearly headless (Please Donn. Pretty please?).

That is a beautiful mule!!! So is the three-eyed L4!!! Milky, you are the man!!!!! My next light is definitely going to be a MilkyMod. I don't have any yet, and I have a few candidates that are begging to feel the Milky touch.
