Surefire Pen

Re: Surefire and Benchmade Pens

Tactical pens. I guess it was inevitable.

Tactical pens. I guess it was inevitable.

They've been around for years, but no one used to call metal-bodied pens, "tactical."

Target used to have a nice selection of cheap, metal-bodied pens that were very popular with the self-defense community. It's been awhile since I've seen them at Target.

Having worked as a high-end pen salesman, I can tell you I'm less than impressed with the so-called "tactical" pens being sold out there. I can think of a handful of high-end pen models that could do a better job than these "tactical" pens.... and the best part is, they're not advertised as being great for slamming into an attacker's face.

But is Surefire advertising their pen as a tactical product, or as just a high-quality writing instrument?

I have two of those Target pens some where(Nebula and Quantum) but I never thought of them as "tacti-cool". I ordered the BM version. I'll try to post some "impressions" when it comes in.
Anyone want to lend their forehead for the "impressions"?

I was hoping surefire abandon lights that serve as a last ditch impact weapon and start selling lights that uses .22s surefire engineered replaceable cartridges:rolleyes:

I had looked at that one, but I found out its more a "tactical weapon" and less of a pen. Screw cap= long time to unscrew before writing/long to secure. Ink refills are low capacity and prone to leaking.

Meh, not impressed, Parker Gel refills don't last too long before drying out, maybe it can use a Fisher space-pen refill with the little "Parkerizing" widget

I like my Rotring 600 Rollerball better anyway, it's just as effective an impact tool as the current crop of "tacti-pens", and it doesn't scream "I'm a WEAPON!", it just looks like a nice, heavy drafting pen (solid brass body)

Parker Jotter Stainless Steel retractable ball pen.

James Bond carried one in several films (complete with remote detonator trigger), and it's tapered enough, especially with the nib extended, to cause serious discomfort to the recipient, and, best of all....... it's cheap !

The things I like about the Surefire pen are:
1. First and foremost, it's a pen, one that writes exceptionally well, is well balanced, and feels nice in the hand.
2. It is designed to accommodate any refill cartridge from 3.8 to 4.25" and you can adjust the protrusion of the pen tip EXACTLY to where you want it. Do you know how long I've wished for someone to make a pen like this?
3. Even though the pen can use virtually any ink cartridge, their choice of a Schmidt 9000m was genius. It is the best writing BP I've ever used.
4. It's big, but not too big.
5. It's rugged without being clumsy. It will stand up to abuse without looking like a Hummer.

Many of the other Tac pens I've looked at have removable caps, which are completely impractical. They amount to ungainly gadgets for the sake of being gadgets, whereas the Surefire is a real honest to goodness pen that happens to be able to break windows without self destructing.

Well done Surefire!!
