Yes I know my search skills need help but after 3 unsuccessful searches I have to ask: Where is the thread about tweaking too hard to push tailcaps? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif Maybe it could be put up as a sticky.

TIA,
-LT

Couldn't tell you where it is, but here are two likely fixes:

1. Remove the smaller, upper oring. Not needed except to keep the switch guts from falling out when the cap is removed. If this helps, the jamb nut needs to be reamed and cleaned up a bit.

2. Lubricate the larger, lower oring. This can bind in the battery tube, making it hard to activate.

Hi Darell,
Thanks for the info. It seems to be a combo of 1&2, more 1 though. I also removed the shim above the jamb nut, between it and the boot, and it seems to decrease the amount of travel needed to activate. Is there some special reason I should keep that shim in place? If not I think I'll leave it out.

What sort of cap do you have there? Sounds like a Z57 that was converted? The simple answer here is that if it works without the shim, the shim is not needed! Seriously.

I use a reamer on my jamb nuts to widen them a bit and clean them up. Removing that upper oring does the same thing simpler though! Since the batteries are changed from the other end, that tail never needs to be removed anyway, so not having that retaining oring on there isn't a big deal.

I'm glad you're getting it figured out! When they work right, they work great. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Darell,

Hey I love my converted Z57 on my L4. This one is a standard Mc2E but the jamb nut is white; hand hewn I believe. I'm going to leave the shim out for a while just to see.

Thanks for the help,
LT

IIRC that was for the original Z57 clicky and it was LitFuse who wanted to fix the clickies .. and did.

The first jamb nuts were white, so it is likely a "factory" part still. Why you'd have a shim in there is beyond me though! In a regular Mctail, just the jambnut is needed, typically. If everything is working right, you are just pushing against the battery spring to fire up low, and against the battery spring PLUS the resistor board spring for high. If nothing else is binding up, the only thing left is the tension of those springs. Most of my problems were fixed with the upper or lower orings binding, however.

Hi,

I just got a "trim" two stage tailcap from the Shoppe, and it is quite stiff. Can you guys point me at more info about how to disassemble and tweak it?

Thanks,

-john
