Here is a sequence of pictures showing how the particles in suspension (in this case smoke-air, but could be water ) reduce the need of corona, as the main beam makes a "light tube effect" thanks to backscatter, which illuminates the surrounding area.
I need to take a similar sequence but with a black matt target to reduce as much as possible the reflexion of the main spot.
The first row is the new P7, which can be considered a thrower. Second row is the "Old painless" driven at 300 mA each LED (seven). Near cero spill.
The third row is a lens prototype, based on aspherics but with areas to get some extra spill.
And now a comparison showing the strange pattern of the "Multilens" combining the throw of aspherics with some spill, compared to a P7 with reflector.
