Hello.

What would be the best flood SSC led FLashlight?

Both the throw (hot spot) and sidespill in one smooth beam?

60-80 lumens (80L max lux equ of:4900) with or without modes.

The best example i have of a flood FL is an ultrafire 502b Xenon.

Thanks.

How about a Lumapower M1 tactical with Seoul P4?
(That is what I came up after searching posts here, as I am looking for such alight as well.)

How are you guys defining flood? I keep seeing people mentioning such-and-such torch has good flood, and none of their beams seem similar to the two true flood torches i'm familiar with, the CentraLED worklight (soon in torch form with the FlashFlood) and to a lesser extent, the original CR2 Ion.

I haven't owned them all by far but my vote for best flood/throw ie more flood than throw but the throw isn't bad is my Milky ML1. The throw/hotspot transition is quite nice and I think it would hit 60-80 lumen on high.

Thanks all. Keep the sugestions comming.

Archangel.

Yes that does show a flood light type of beam.

Deep reflector, tapered honeycomb shape set emiters.

Very nice work light with pratical options.

Now if we can find a flashlight with simular properties.

Thanks again.

Northernflame- Central Tools will be releasing a flashlight with the exact same beam next month. It'll use 2x123 and be constantly variable from single-digit lumen to over 80lm out the front.

Hello.

Could you please elaborate on your "constantly variable" comment, and if possible what the "Central Tools"web site url is?

Thanks.

The only problem is that 200$ for such an led light is beyond rediculous.

Depends on what you'd like to spend.
If you are willing to shell out $85 or so, don't hesitate, get an
AmiLite T5!!.....you will love it.

Hello and thanks.

EngrPaul . Thankyou i have that one there is more recent cr-123 lumileds version. No idea on runtime though. Not yet at least.

Orbital. I'm quite willing to dish out that kind of money (or more). However i do want something very efficient and functional in return.

I looked over an amilite T5. Not bad.

EngrPaul: Perosonaly SSC's for the near 180 degree emition angle. Less of a blinding hot spot at close range. More like the Streamlight Jr Luxeon.

You can get the CentraLED for $130. I'm not saying its inexpensive, but it's very well designed. Consider it the Surefire of the automotive lighting world. The FlashFlood uses a potentiometer to smoothly vary the output to anything in the range. Their main site is just as you'd expect, but as you'll see, CPF is not where they make their money.

If you already have a few throwy lights that you like, I usually recommend removing the reflector from one of them. As an example, MagLEDs (and the incan version too, I suppose) work well for this. MinimagLEDs (and the incan versions) work if you're willing to mostly unscrew the tailcap to turn it off.

This probably isn't the neatest solution, but I think it's the cheapest.

This is the best suggestion. Most SSC lights have removable reflectors and are still bright with pure flood.

Re: The best flood SSC led flashlight?

Hello and thanks again.

Yes i'm aware about the removing the reflector. I'm done so with one of my SL JR's and other fl's. Works very well.

The only down side is how the FL head is made, if it's deep & has reflective inner surface of the frame then it works perfectly as a reflectorless flood.

Thanks.

Re: The best flood SSC led flashlight?

If you put a SSC in a Coast Lenser, and then take the head/optic off it's 100% flood.

Hello, and thanks.

Yes i've pondered modding a coast lenser.

There is a thread on here by Teaque that the lenser was modded with an SSC and PCB as the original lenser had no regulation. Very impressive indeed.

Thanks TeaQue.

The modding of a coast 7438 is very attractive, as it can easily take an 18650 li-ion and still be able to use it's 3xAAA bracket.

The only compaint i've heard of that it seems costly to pay 59.95$+ shipping and taxes for a 7438 if your only going to strip it down and mod it.
