I have found the cure for flashaholism. Just pay a visit to the Knives section of this forum. I haven't spent a dime on lights in weeks. The only drawback is I spent 3X as much on blades in the past month. :naughty:

Get addicted to Swiss Army Knives , at least they are cheap . The two addictions seem reciprocal .

For petes sake stay away from watches and fountain pens !

Chris

Careful, that isn't a cure. It is more like methadone maintenance than a cure.

Try firearms (if your govt allows). It makes flashlights look like the methadone...

The actual cure is a recession/depression which, sadly, does not look like a voluntary thing.

Ha, it was link in a watch forum that led me here. I do custom work on watches and am praying I don't get the bug to customize any flashlights, so far I am happy with the D20 and L2D as is

LOL - I went from the knife forums to the watch forums and ended up here. I think I'll stay here - it's much cheaper than the other two :D

Blades and Flashlights are both pretty safe, so long as you (try) and avoid the custom high$$$ stuff. Fortunately theres great stuff from Byrd/spyderco, fenix...etc... to keep funds in control.

*edit*
Just found out the Cables torch/knife combo is back down to $19, just search Cabelas for item number OG-517768

Stay away from headphones and watches. The latter being a real wallet killer... $100-$150 just to get your foot in the door with a serviceable Citizen/Invicta Miyota auto:faint: I tried to get into watches, but its just too expensive. I am very happy here at CPF.

Yep - let's see:

young and single - watches/firearms
young and married - watches/fountain pens
married with kid - fountain pens/lights
married with kids - whatever I can still afford, which ain't much!

Firearms I never could really get into even when I had money and few responsibilities - the cost even then was too high.

Watches I still love - and have in my past spent a fair amount on (and still have a few watches) them but nowadays I'm pretty happy with my current collection.

Pens are very addictive and much like lights there are multiple price points - my favorite pen right now is a Lamy 2000 which can be purchased new for around $100, a bit under if you shop around. I'm looking at another Lamy, and Al-Star right now which is well under $40. But you can spend about as much as you want on them, although to a degree like lights you start to get to diminishing returns in terms of performance and start verging on art.

I have a few knives and am about to sell a few off, but have never gone over $75 I don't think for one - with Natives and the like I haven't been compelled to do so - and the only thing that really gets my interest over that are the Sebenzas and they are much too expensive.

But I am notorious for my bang for the buck quests - once the diminshing returns set in I have a hard time spending the money, particularly for something I use and I wear all my watches, use all my pens, use all my lights, etc... if it doesn't get used it eventually gets sold or traded for something I will.

At times I've wondered if I should sell all my pens and get one much more expensive one - or sell all my lights to buy a McGizmo or Ti Nautilus or Arc6 or the like - but I do like some variety in the mix... I'm not sure I could live with just one knife, light, pen or watch!

I considered getting into watches, and even tried. Problem is, I like Quartz movement and plain faces with numbers around the watch-face; along with velcro bands. (All can be found on very inexpensive models).

I actually can't stand automatics. Bought a very expensive Hamilton.... and returned it two weeks later because it just couldn't keep accurate time.

Funny, I found flashaholism a good cure against collecting watches. :p

I surely don't want to go back full time, with a nice automatic chronograph selling for $ 5,000 I had some initial difficulties understanding why people around here found an SF Titan expensive... :naughty:

Watch Forum?

WATCH FORUM!

Hmm...

Thanks for the tip, and I'm there!

My wife's not going to be happy! :shakehead

and the only thing that really gets my interest over that are the Sebenzas and they are much too expensive.

I have owned quite a few knives from AG Russels, to Benchmades, to Buck's, to Gerbers, to CRKT's etc. and the Sebenza is the one knife that I always have on me. I use it frequently and enjoy every second of it's use.

My wife bought it for me last Christmas and when I first laid eyes and hands on it, I was absolutely hooked. It screams quality, durability and style.

I would highly recommend getting one... now all of my other pocket knives sit in the nightstand drawer.

Like a few of the above posters mentioned, stay away from firearms. It gets expensive real quick and that's not including the ammo!

I don't really understand the fascination with automatics either. Maybe if I had a really nice one I would appreciate it more:broke:. But thats what I love about CPF, I can get just as much enjoyment from a $25 Romisen as a $170 Surefire. :twothumbs

bdwf.net is my fave watch forum. The members there are not nearly as pretentious as other forums. The brand-snobbery and country of manufacturing origin snobbery seems to be a little less there.
