Well...here I am. Ive been debating a light for my rifle for a couple of weeks now...Ive also heard.."You collection will NEVER be complete without at least ONE Surefire!"..SO.....the debate started..

"Maybe another O-light..."
""Fenix...."
"SUREFIRE??!?! UGH!"

So, here I am at my desk and my email alert goes off on my phone. I pull it up and it looks like LA Police Gear is clearing out some of their Surefire line..HMM! WHICH ONE?!

Im not going to kid myself..Im going to put a drop-in in it..But which one. The light is going to be primarily on my AR-15 (work)and I do a decent amount of shooting with it. Ive heard about the Markoff (?) drop ins and I saw a 600 lumen replacement head from TNVC, http://tnvc.com/items/illumination_tools/tnvc_tx4_conversion_head.html , which I really like. I usually had my O-light in it but I wanted something with more POWER for those situations that need it..

Gen1-6P-LED - $49.99
Gen1-6PDL - $54.99
Gen1- G3 - $44.99
Gen1-C2L -$54.99

Also, can I mount a tape switch to any of these? Is there a clicky I can buy to have different modes?

You can get a tape switch, just have to look a bit...the XM07 is the current tape switch, but the older one's are still floating aorund on websites and show up on the MP from time to time.

Malkoff drop-ins are the best in the business...the M60 cranks out around 260 "real" Lumens. These are some ggod deals, andI don;t think they'd last long...I'd really like to get a 3rd C2...or another G3...

Of these, the 6PL or G3L would be the best to mount on an AR. Hope that helps!

Frankly, if I were mounting a light to a rifle, I would do a build akin to this. Although instead of sourcing parts from elsewhere that Surefire doesn't sell separately themselves I might just get a Valiant 1xCR123 clicky body instead.

I think the 6P is the best if you are going to mount it on you picatinny rails. If I remembered it right you can use 1 inch rings to mount the light on to the rails. So with this set up, you get the best bang for your bucks.

For what I can understand about the C2 design. It is to be use with a pistol while holding the light roger style AKA cigar grip.

Thats a nice setup. Definitely something to consider. I an concerned about runtime..

The Surefire world is sure intimidating to me and my WALLET!!

Certainly the runtime would suck, but it's not like you'll be using a weaponlight for anything but momentary quick illumination anyway. If you're using your weaponlight to search with or light a path you're Doing It Wrong™ anyway.:nana:

For a weaponlight low weight is prioritized over runtime, well at least I would consider them in that order. You want as little weight as possible out at the front of the rifle.

So true...I'm pretty meticulous about weight so Im not going to put a heavy *** light on my rifle...

ANy suggestions where I can just buy a body of a light?

30 seconds ago I bought a 6P and 18 batteries.. hurry up before I beat you to one of those 6PLs :)

Being as the C2Ls are sold out at this point.

At first I didn't see the Surefire "hype" until I bought an E1B as my ONE Surefire. SIX short weeks later I had FIVE Surefires and counting. Hide your wallet!

I hear ya. Ive been buying quality flashlights for alittle over a year now. and stayed away from surefires because of their lower lumens, and higher costs. (up until a few months ago). Ive tried many quarks, fenix, olight, jetbeam, nitecore, thrunite, zebralight, dereelight, for its stats on paper. but 4 of the last 5 torches ive purchased are surefires. on paper, surefires seem obsolete with its lower lumens, and higher costs. but after you get them in your hands, you realize the extensive thought, research and development that went into them. the only "made in china" brand i still look at are zebralights, because they are different.

give it a chance, u might just start selling everything else. like i did.

Just go ahead and drink the Kool-Aid, you'll never look back

Surefires' definitely are worth the money.
