I've never seen a THOR light accept on this site. But while I was in Fry's this evening I came across something called the HUMVEE LIGHT that looks like a THOR light. Is this indeed the case? From the post I've seen it sounds great. I could use something like this in case of a flat somewhere in Area-51. Fill me in, is the a manufactures site? Can you get spare parts, etc? How heavy is it? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

THe HUMVEE at Fry's is a 10 MCP THOR with a different name and a 1amp charger. It weighs 11 pounds.

I would really like to know what the difference in output is between the 10mcp and 15Mcp Thor.

I would like somebody to fill me in thoroughly on THOR lights. I have been surfing the web for them, and i have found two main ones that are very similar in appearance and features. They both look generally the same, say 10Mcp, etc. One of them has a shorter and wider base than the other, and from what i am able to find, the one with the taller and skinnier base generally says [in descriptions i have read] that it can be run directly from a car battery via 12V power outlet, but the one with the wider base does not usually say this, but it seems to cost more. They are also listed under tons of different company names, like cyclops, THOR, northern lights, etc. If someone could give me a real filling-in on these things. our projected use of the light is along the lines of driving around and goofing off with it... we are not terribly concerned with industrial durability, storm protection, or anything like that. Our main need is that it be able to run off the juice from the cars battery instead of its own. We got a whimpy little 1 million CP handheld light from Home Depot, and since none of us have any real knowledge of this stuff, we assumed that it would be able to run off the car's battery when charging (seems like something they would be kind enough to give you... the packaging obviously aims to mislead people into thinking so). Any help and words of wisdom would be most appreciated. (-:

THOR is the name given to the 10,000,000CP light that has appeared in several stores this year selling for between $80 and $25. I think one store actually call it THOR and the rest of the stores simply called it the 10,000,000CP Light. Mine came from Northern Tool & Equipment and that was on the box...the lightitself had NO store name. There seems to be some minor differences in the content of the instructions.....some had the instruction in the box....mine had the instructions printed on the box.

We generally call the 10M light THOR....although I think that there is also a 7M lookalike also. There is a rather large thread in this forum that discusses all of this.

Roy, this is the other one that i saw... See how the base has a smaller footprint? I guess your saying that they are the same thing? I'll try and find that thread you mentioned.

I hate to be a whiner, but could you please edit your links as described in Paragraph 2 of article 5?. It'll make the page narrower so we don't have to scroll side to side to read people's posts.
TIA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

i see no whining.. just a helpful hint. I was looking for that when i posted it, thanks for pointing it out.

so does anyone know the difference here?

The light seems to be coming down in price, so maybe the more expensive stores haven't adjusted the price, or they are greedy.

5Mcp. Your welcome.

Yeah, if you look close enough they are actually being offered by three different companies or stores. BRAND NOT SPECIFIED, Northern Industrial Tools and Lifestyle Fascination Catalog. They are all the same, as it appears. I like the looks of the BRAND NOT SPECIFIED orange but I already have one.

I e-mailed Cyclops solutions on the differences between the 10Mcp and 15Mcp thor, the e-mail was returned because the address was bad. So they must not have there e-mail account set to accept any e-mail.

I wonder if the difference between the 10Mcp and 15Mcp is the same as the difference between the 3.5Mcp and 10Mcp. just a guess.

I don't KNOW, but as far as I can tell these are all the same amimal. They're appearantly coming from a factory in China by the shipload and going through different distribution channels. Each seller can set whatever price he see fit.
Again, all speculation on my part.

It sounds like you guys are gonna play with this thing by driving around and lighting up the world. It sounds like a lot of fun! In a lot of states this sort of thing can be illegal. Even if it isn't, PLEASE be courteous and careful. Temporarily blinding somebody could at best be annoying and at a bad extreme could cause an accident that could result in injury or even death.
OK, preach mode off. Sorry.
Have fun with your light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/happy14.gif
I don't know if you've seen the thread. These things are at Costco for a mere $25. A steal.

I don't think they're the same. The top light, which costs $10 more, states that it can be run off the car adapter. The other does not, but says it can be recharged. This is like the Vectors....cordless/rechargeable is not the same as cordless/corded/rechargeable. It generally costs more to have a corded unit, and it's generally worth it when the power runs down.

[/ QUOTE ] davidra, I would not take Amazon description or who ever put up the description as gospel. With that said, here is a qoute [ QUOTE ]
Recharge via 12V car adapter or AC / DC home 110V adapter (both included); Can run directly off 12V car adapter

[/ QUOTE ] It clearly states [ QUOTE ]
Recharge via 12V car adapter or AC / DC home 110V adapter (both included);

[/ QUOTE ] which mine came with. Then it says [ QUOTE ]
Can run directly off 12V car adapter

[/ QUOTE ] can being the operative word here. It does not say that it comes with that piece. I thought in one of the THOR threads I read that someone did run it off in thier car, I think.

i emailed 2 ebay people with different brand names on it, sent them a link with the instruction manual thing in a pdf file of a nice original looking yellow one, and asked them to verify that the specifications for performance and parts that come with it are the same as stated in that pdf... one of them has responded, they answered by saying "you get the light in the picture (dumbass) and then linking me to a place to buy absinth mix (bigger dumbass). The other one has yet to respond. If costco has them for that much, i'll sure head over there. I don't have a membership, but i'll improvise.

My thor has two jacks that will take the 12V car cord. One is for charging, the other is for powering the light.

Anybody still find Thors at Costco? Our local Costco is out of both the Thors and the Vectors. Could be that Costco got a special 1-time deal on a bulk of them and that's it. No more?
