I was wondering what people are using for a lubricant on the threads of their flashlights. I have not used anything until now. I want to keep the threads in good shape so I started using a spray silicon lubricant. It works great on the friction, but it seems to be causing trouble with O-rings. They appears to dislodge to easily now and get pinched. I am not sure the spray silcon is making them too pliable.

Any suggestions on what would work best??

Go to Napa auto store. Dielectric silicone compound. 1.25 oz cost $8.00 good for 40 degrees below 0. A surefire tech told me not to waste my money on the expensive nyo gell this is perfect and all you need.

I just use silicone grease myself, and find it adequate. I thought Surefire themselves use Nyogel though...

USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! This topic has been covered more times than the entire Beatles songbook. Silicone based = good. Petroleum based = bad (eats O-rings). Dielectric inhibits conductivity = bad.

The surefire tech told me they use nyogel but the stuff from napa is just as good, but is so much cheaper. He simply told me not to waste my money on the nyogell.

Ah, fair enough. One thing I've noticed though is when I got my Surefire 6P, the threads are smoother than anything else I've experienced. I realise this is at least partly due to how well made they are, but I suspect the lube they use does make some difference, even though cheaper stuff will work okay. I'll probably end up buying some Nyogel just to see for myself.

Thank you everyone for the ideas. This gives me a great place to start. I am new to the forum and forget about the search feature. I will try to use it in the future and not duplicate iniformation.
