Throw: Malkoff 3-D UCL vs. KD Cree Q5 w/ 52mm Aspherical?

I'm so dead. I'm getting hooked on this flashlight thing. Okay I recently got the Malkoff 3-D and grabbed a UCL lens and am loving the light.

How does the throw comapre to the M*g CREE Q5 LED Drop-in & 52mm Aspherical Lens Kit?

I'm looking for throw only for distance spotting. And what about battery life?

im no expert, but ive got the flashlight bug pretty bad.

kd aspheric will do %85 of what you want (if it works when it arrives?) and for how long?

there are several well respected 'thrower' lights talked about on this forum

for $40 you can try the kd aspheric, or add another $40 and get a really well made light that will last a long time.

its a tough call, quality or cheap route?

200 or 500 lumens?

40 minutes or 2 hour runtime?


i got a jetbeam ibs 3, 2 days ago, best thrower ive had, 'almost' like a 160 foot long 'light saber', but i just orderd 5 cheap aspheric lenses, because im in the same boat as you......

Both of you seriously need to experience an aspheric light. The KD setup is a good place to start.

I've used the Malkoff 3D and the KD aspheric. Both great but as for throw, KD aspheric hands down and draws around your ankles better than the Much celebrated Malkoff. Check out my shots here:

Well the KD kit is not actually a complete light ..... its an upgrade so I suppose your still keeping your promise :D :p

Look on www.theledguy.com and get a Modamag V2 MOP camless reflector for your 3D Malkoff. I have 3 of these and I absolutely love the way it works w/my Malkoff's.

You can also get a SMO one if you want max throw.

The KD kit (or another aspheric) will outthrow anything else in the stock mag head.
