I am looking at the thyrm cell vault xl.
Which is basically a plastic battery storage case with two cylindrical channels that holds 3 cr123a batteries one on top of the other in each channel.

I wanted to keep three cr123a batteries in one side and in the other side one li-ion 16650 and one cr123a. Which means the negative contact of the li-ion battery will be stored contacting with the positive contact of the cr123a if I drop the cr123a in first.
I know nothing about batteries so please excuse my ignorance. But would storing the 3 volt cr123 with the 3.7 volt li-ion in this fashion be problematic or is this completely fine?

If it's a plastic storage case, there isn't a completed circuit. You're good to go.

Thank you, what I know about electrics/electronics you could write on the head of a pin.
I thought it would be ok but wanted to be sure as my one worry about my ever growing flashlight collection is one of the batteries spontaneously combusting.

I recently read that house fires are on the up due to the amount of rechargeable battery powered tech in peoples houses. (Vapes and e-scooters named as culprits)

As others say it's not a problem. But if it was a concern couldn't you just of loaded them in there the same way so it's not an issue?

I was going to drop them in negative side down. My concern was with the li-ion 16650 battery sharing a channel with a lithium cr123.

As others have said, there's no problem storing different battery types in the same CellVault (so long as you don't do anything to complete the circuit somehow). I'd recommend storing them all pointing the same way, but there's no science to that view.

The key thing to know about storing 18650s in the CellVault XL is that you'll have to take out the centre divider that separates the two channels, turning it into one big space. With the divider in place, 18650s don't fit.

I've just checked with a CellVault XL here, and you can definitely fit 1x 18650 and 4x CR123A with the divider removed, but without the divider the batteries rattle quite a bit (which might not be an issue, depending on your use case).

HTH.

Hi, thanks, I was going to store a 16650 not an 18650 so I should be able to leave the divider in hopefully.👍
