Titanium body LED light?

I thought I saw a titanium LED flashlight somewhere. Anyone know where to buy somethign like this?

I assume you're talking about the metal titanium and not the color, correct?

Yes, I thought I saw a titanium metal LED flashlight somewhere online....I would imagine, if it exists, it is quite expensive....but...

Fliklight was talking about making one but i don't think it ever came about. I have made a couple small key ring sized Ti lights but have not seen any commercially available units. The poor thermal conductance of the metal will likely preclude its use with the high power LED lights until they become more efficient or the LED's are underdriven. I am very fond of Ti and hope to integrate more of it into some of my lights in the future. When this fast breaking new technology of LEDs, converters and switches slows down and matures, I look forward to trying to build a Ti light. At present, such a light could become obsolete before it was finished. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The titanium arc AAA body! I am a chemist by training and metals like that turn me on. I wish I had the know how to work with metals and lathes and what not....alas I am chemist who work with computers....

Keep me in mind if you want to get rid of that titanium body /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

BTW I have seen titanium for sale at the Boeing surplus in Auburn (or Kent?) Wahington. They sell surplus titanium blocks for fairly cheap...if you need some more..

Is there a reason for building a titanium light (besides the coolness factor)? What advantages over aluminium would it have?

The two advantages Ti could have over Aluminium, depending on alloy, would be strength and most likely important, corrosion resistance. These advantages typically would not justify the consideration of Ti beyond the "cool" factor. For say a dive light, I would certainly prefer Ti over Al.

for me it would be the fact that Ti is the same metal as the submarine i work and live on part time...lol...would love to have a titanium body like the one on you website McGizmo waaay cool.

Here's one I made last spring. The only Aluminum showing is the end of the Kroll adapter ring. Still use it as a jacket pocket EDC. If I can get part of a friends supply I will do a Solitare size one this spring. Most of what I have left is thin sheet stock left over from making jewelry in the 70's and he has some tubing and bar stock shorts. We're negotiating..
