Five miles across! And you own a Prius?!! Man, I'm jealous now. With a good bicycle you could ride that far!!
Seriously though, living in a small town you are already have most of the battle won. Heck, with a small commuter electric for in town and the Prius for road trips-you'll have a killer combination!

Yeah, it would be great except for the inordinate amount of traffic and the higher than normal percentage of SUVs and Hummers. We have our own Hummer dealer in town. We also have main thoroughfares that are 45 MPH, so a less powerful vehicle would not work. You need to use the thoroughfares because there are several places where they are the only streets that cross the flood control canals.

That was one of the weknesses of the THINK. It was allowed on roads with speed limits under 40MPH (in Calif), so it could not go across town in many cities.

Anybody else get "Car and Driver"?

It seems that Honda has quitely added a Hybrid Accord that ain't bad at all! Of course it's still ICE...

But hey, the car makers aren't sitting static (well except for GM perhaps...)

It's an exciting time to be alive for sure!

From what I've read, the Honda hybrid system is fairly easy to integrate into most of Honda's line. This is due to the fact that it's less integrated into the engine design itself. IIRC, the ICE operates in a conventional mode most of the time. I'm glad to see that there is enough demand that they have expanded their offerings.

LOCO is more like it.
Yes, the "hybrid" option will be an extra add-on like a DVD player soon. With the Accord, it sounds like they're going after the performance aspect of electric drive, like Lexus is doing with the RX. Not a great increase in fuel economy - but at least showing that hybrids can be better performing than pure-ICE.

Newb - you ask about the batteries... who are you asking? What engineers had problems, and with what batteries? What were the problems, exactly?
