Hi, I've been lurking for a few weeks here and finally signed up. I have been EDC'ing a streamlight stinger for such a long time and stumbled across this mecca for guys like me. Can't wait to get a little more involved.

I discovered that the new Surefire L1 cree was the way to go for a backup light to carry. So I ordered one about a week ago and finnaly got it two days ago. Awesome light thanks for the info from all you guys/(girls?).

Anyways, I have a friend that appreciates the fact that I EDC a hundred things on my person, but his girlfriend thinks I am a weirdo for it. And for some odd reason she thinks that the Flashlight is the dumbest thing of all to carry (btw I carry some weird stuff). So tonight she out of nowhere exclaims " OH NO!, I lost an earing!" I was in the other room kindof busy so I figured no big deal. I come out 30 mins later and they are still looking for the dang earing. So in less than 30 seconds of being in the room I get out the L1 and spot the twinkle of the "diamond" inside a blanket in the corner. "FOUND IT". "WITH MY DUMB FLASHLIGHT".

fast-foward 2 hours.

"OH NO, BUFFY RAN OUTSIDE" ( her new cat). So we all run out to her pitch black backyard which is a massive 20-30 acres of forest.

This is pretty much verbatim...

Her (with tears)- "we're never gonna find her"

Me- Trust me we will get her easily. I have experience in this kind of thing

Her- "but what if we.....

Me (interrupting with L1 on low mode)- "I see her right there"

Her- "OH YEAH! I see her eyes"

Me- now do you see her eyes? (shuts off light)

Her- "TURN IT BACK ON!!!

Me- you mean this silly flashlight that I found your earing and cat with?"

Her (i'm guessin with rolling eyes) - Ok ok ok whatever

so the moral of the story is

well, you know.:)

:lolsign: you made 1 mistake...you shoulda had it on max brightness for the cat :D

After you found the cat, you should have just gone inside, and let them find it in the dark.

I too EDC a lot of stuff. I get the questions and weird looks often enough. Those people never go away and most still roll their eyes even after you've saved their butt. Oh well

Great post and welcome. I too had a great EDC moment last week in a Home Depot at night. The lights went out (no they weren't closing ;)) and the only thing running were the emergency lights. It was quite dark in there, but my L0D Q4 came to the rescue. Moments like that really make you feel like this hobby is justified .

The other night we were sitting in our car, waiting for the tow driver to pull our son out of the snowbank, when he noticed that one of his lenses had popped out of the frame.

He told us that he was going back to the car to look around and asked "Would anybody happen to have a flashlight?" That was my clue!

With an evil chuckle, I handed him my little 1xAA River Rock I had picked up at Target and keep in my pocket.

Oh, and he found the lens on the floor of his car, in the dark.

Case closed.

Great story and nice job!!

Like my favorite quote says "if you think there is a chance of rain you take an umbrella when you leave the house, yet it gets dark every night and people think I'm weird for carrying a (or 17 ) flashlight..."

Oh yeah... :welcome:

I went over to my Church on Saturday to replace one of the defective skylight shutters - we have two skylights with motorized shutters so that the main room can be pitch dark (my Church looks like a coffee bar/nightclub/movie theater complete with a full sound board and music stage). We had to use the scissor lift to get to the skylight shutters that were 40' up. Trouble was the lift I heard was intermittent in the past and today it went dead.

Out came the Romisen RC-G2, a DMM from my tool box and a half an hour later the scissor lift was working again after removing the hydraulic pump's endbell and cleaning up the stuck/gummed up brushes in their holders.

Runs like a dream now. Nice compact light for getting into the nook and crannies under the lift, lots of targeted light for seeing what's going on. It was too dark to work in there otherwise.

Good story! I'm sure your buddies girl is gonna make a wonderful wife someday (cough). Your a prepared kinda guy, good on you! and you were a hero, I think she oles you....never mind, carry on.

My experience is that even after you help someone out and prove the usefulness of having a flashlight they still tease you about it. If it weren't so much fun to play with flashlights I would probably just let people fumble around in the dark.
