 lol, well there are usually 2 headlights that are 200 watts per light and 2 ditch lights at 350 watts per light that make up all that light output. Plus I think they are pretty big! :duck:Better wire up some deep cycle batteries in the back seat of your truck and add a couple alternators as well:tinfoil:.

Locomotive Mars lights are a distant memory here in the US. They were phased out many years ago.

A Mars light is an additional headlight mounted on the front of a locomotive. The Mars light mechanically moves the beam around in a pattern and makes the train much more obvious to motorists and pedestrians along the track.

I don't think it was really intended to let the train crew see to the right and left. It was intended to alert people to an approaching train. They were really striking when you saw one coming toward you. You immediately knew it was a train, and not an automobile on a road near the track.

I was out walking one night in the dark and saw what I thought was a Mars light. Ran like crazy trying to get away from that darn thing. It was right behind me and gaining all the time. I finally gave up, turned around, threw out my arms high overhead and said a few quick words thinking I was about to meet my maker when all of a sudden I realized that Mars light was my girlfriend running after me waving my big handtorch flashlight around violently while running. Could have knocked me over with a feather when she said "Here honey, I thought you might want your flashlight". Haven't left home without it since..........

Piece of trivia.
The Mars Light was invented by the same company that invented the Mars Candy Bar.:twothumbs

This is NO joke.

Most trains I see now have a 'wig-wag' pattern to the front lights, looks like a fire truck or police car.

You mean the alternative flashing pattern? Mars lights actually wave back and forth mechanically.
Yeah, like the Mars 888 light makes a figure 8 pattern , I'm talking about lights on trains currently (yes, alternating back and forth) that I see here in San Diego. The Wig-Wag pattern I think is pretty neat looking as well, gets my attention.
