I converted a P7 LED flashlight from deal extreme and a Marwi View Point halogen light.

Both now have P7 LED's installed.

Still waiting on several of the 18650 2400mah lithiums from deal extreme so I can put togther battery packs. Been testing them with 4000 mah NiMh batteries.

more info and pics here.

It's the same as the other light and all my lights.
That black plastic piece bolts to the light and then slides onto the marwi handlebar mount.
I just did not have it bolted to the light in the pictures.
You can see a close up of that piece on all my lights in this image.

Also check out this page on how the Marwi mounts work

Also, I forgot to mention in the post above that I have ordered some of the 1400ma driver boards and the 5 mode boards from DX.
I am going to install these boards in both projects to get some current regulation and to be able to have a low light mode for long uphill climbs

I received two of the new reflectors from Deal Extreme. I machined one of them for the SSC P7 LED and posted the info on my web site here.

Still no Lithium batteries from DX. They are very slow to get orders out, but it's free shipping on everything so I can't complain too much. By the time I get the other goodies I need to finish this project, I won't need lights for the bike. :broke:

Has anyone had any experience with Marwi P7 conversions that EL34 is selling? Look to be a nicely built light with a good mount. However, I'm not sure what the thermal conduction from the P7 heatsink to the body is like and whether the body has enough surface area to cool the LED. Also it looks like water could get in to the electronics pretty easy with quite a large hole in the side of the body that the mount fits into.

You may wsh to ask on the MTBR DIY light site.

1. EL34 is great to work with. You will find rave reviews.
2. The mount hole is through a solid chunk of plastic with no connection internally.
3. The plastic back on my Marwi Bullet lights is much the same and a little silicon is enough where the aluminum body meets the plastic back..
4. Heat transfer is NOT a problem. These run surprisingly cool, as long as you shut them off when standing for extended periods, or reduce output at lights. That is pretty normal for high power bike lights. More on that in the thread below.
5. If you aren't in a big hurry or just like the P7, an alternative is being developed and discussed here:

EL34 is considering this as an alternative to the P7.

Hope this helps.

He may be a speed reader.

He only needs to read EL34's posts and replies to them.

He may get thoroughly hooked. lovecpf :welcome:

Thanks for the replies and the "light" reading (that really was without any pun intended...). Definitely looks like a viable alternative.

I was reading one of EL34's other threads and was slightly put off by this thoughts on heat transfer and his attitude.

I'll have a proper read of the other thread and keep learning more about the world of LEDs and drivers. The other potential light I'm considering is using a MagicShine and when/if it dies use the housing to build something.
