UK 4AA eLED - 5 Stars!

Hmmmm. It looks great except for the throw/output.

A SL Task Light one watt gives 19/16 vs. the UKs 15/9 in throw/relative output.

Looks like a neat light other than that. And you certainly can't beat the price.

JohnK- True. It's not going to "wow" a flashaholic (as Budd put it in another post) with its brightness.

It's more like a Luxeon based Opalec Newbeam with more than twice the output and throw and still dead solid regulation.

The only plastic flashlight I gave a 5-star review of was a Turtlelite II, but that was back in 2000. And it was ruined in an earthquake in 2001 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif so I no longer have it.
Lights you can get now though are significantly better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't have a UK 4AA eLED, so I don't have an evaluation of one on my site yet.
But when I do, I expect it to earn a high rating. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Great work as always, Doug!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

Wow!
A rigidly regulated Luxeon SE w/reflector flashlight for $20? Looks to be a great light for work, and with lithiums, a great car/emergency light. Thanks for the heads-up on the review.

I bought two and love them, I will probably get a couple more. They are great for things like briefcases, desk drawrs, gloveboxes etc.
This would be a great emergency light. It will run consistantly from sundown to sunup.

I've bought 1 this noon. As what many others said, it was really a great light- AA-operated, compact size, cheap, UK-production, highly water-resistant, long-hour operation with constant brightness, etc. But the throw and output are really disappointing for me.

A question for those that have this light. What is the emitter actually attached to? What is the thermal path from the emitter to the aluminum reflector?

Its a standard star with what looks like epoxy holding the reflector (and the "base") to the star. I do notice some heat coming through the Lexan and rubber lens but on disassembly, the star itself isn't unacceptably hot.

BTW, I now have three. Two are very close in color and output but the 3rd is definitely brighter and whiter. The LuxoLotto is still in effect /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon23.gif

Don't wait too long. I don't know how long Brightguys price will last. $20 is the introductory price, then they go up to $25. Still a good deal at the regular price.

The more I think about this light, the more I want it!

OK, I have, maybe 5-10 hand made Luxon Star Flashlight that probably outshine this light, so why do I want it?

10+ Hours of CONSTANT BRIGHT light!

Commercial Quality

Built by a company that designs lights for firemen and skuba divers!

Look at the graph!

You could have a flashlight on ALL NIGHT LONG, in a situation, and have MINUTE 1 brightness after 10 hours!

Pretty DARN NICE!

Buy an extension and put it on a helmut. Heck, put two on your helmut, they are cheap enough!

And they take AA's! Much easier to find in an emergency situation than a 123A battery!

I have brighter lights and smaller lights, and yes, I have brighter, smaller lights than this, but this light seems to fill a really nice stable nitch in the flashlight scene!

Flashaholics love extremes. The brightest, longest runtime, smallest, longest throw, toughest, light color, beam pattern, etc. To be the winner in a catagory or two, you have to make some sacrifies somewhere else.
This light has doesn't win any catagories, but scores a "very good" in all of them. That is what makes it a great light. $20 makes it a must have.

Man, I really wish these had alittle more throw, I really like this 10 hours of FLAT regulated light.

But, I am afraid that the light will be useless to me being dim, with no throw.

Thought about getting one for caving, but I dont think its light output can cut it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

yeah, it isnt crazy bright by any means. only about 140lux at 1 meter per my measurements. i consider it a "super opalec" in that it is only a bit bulkier and the beam is significantly brighter--and whiter. and regulated!

but, it should be great for around the house and maybe camping.

it is also a screaming deal. you can get the incan head for about $6, and swap them as needed. neat!

take care,
Bob

anyone care to order an extra one for me? PP ready since BrightGuy doesn't take PayPal /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
