I recently received a UKPK fitted with replacement scales made from Carbon Fibre which I am fantastically delighted with.

Here's some pics I took down at the beach, as you know Carbon Fibre is a pig to photograph, and I'm no expert behind the camera.

The UKPK is perfect. I really like the way the carbon looks in the daylight. The fit and finish of the new scales is spot on. The scales appear to be a little thicker than standard which I like, gives it a meatier look/feel. I measured them today at work, each scale is 0.25mm thicker than the standard scales, not much really.

This knife was a 40th birthday gift to myself, so it means a lot to me. I intend to use it as much as possible and cherish it at the same time.

So if your UKPK is getting a little rough round the edges or you just fancy the carbon fibre look, I can recommend these scales.

My thanks to AncientSword for sourcing a UKPK for me and making/fitting the new scales.

Essexman,

Very nice looking UKPK; forgive my ignorance, but would the carbon fibre scales last longer than the normal plastic ones and what is the grip like, it looks quite slippery?

I have a UKPK but haven't really carried it much since I was arrested for having it; durability is less of a concern these days, but I always like to consider the alternatives :-(

To be honest the CF is just nice looking compared to the standard G10 black plastic, and I guess it would be more durable too. I've only used my UKPK dry, but yes the new CF scales have no texture so grip in the wet my be an issue. Now that AncientSword is set up you could ask him to make some scales in any textured G10 colour, just depends what he has in stock?

Now I have to ask, why were you arrested? [If you don't wish to post details on a public forum, please feel free to PM me]

I have only carried Swiss army size knives before, so the UKPK does feel a bit big to me. Most people are surprised (some shocked) when I tell them that it's legal to carry here in the UK.

- For non UK members reading this, please bear in mind that the UK has had/having media frenzy on "knife crime". The general public in the UK believes (thanks to the press) you would be put in jail for carrying ANY knife, which is not the case. -

I WANT ONE !!!

Hiya TX101 - I could almost here you shouting that !

I forgot to say, the sales thread is HERE

You know TX it's really your fault I started looking at knives, you had a sales thread a while ago with a few nice knives, I had a spyderco off you for a friend, that made me look at the britishblades forum. A few small penknives later and I've now got the ultimate UKPK. :)

Hi Essexman,

Thanks, it looks quite slick but interested in your opinion of it in use. I had to sharpen mine after seeing at yours as it was looking a little sorry. More colourful scales might make it look less intimidating although, as you say, people here don't really like pocket knives. I know very few people who carry them on a regular basis for fear of legal reprisals; I wonder if Victorinox orange ones would help.

No great secret about my brush with the criminal side of the law. Was working as a professional at a local civil court just after they started searching people (first time I had been searched there). Whilst it is perfectly legal to own knives, they like to hold them at the entrance to avoid any nastiness in the court rooms. The overly officious security officer called the Police and they were waiting for me outside the chambers.

Perfectly pleasant and polite Police officers but they didn't believe my representations as to the law (ironic really considering the circumstances). Was taken to the custody centre and spoke to the nice custody sergeant who looked up the law when I quoted it; he decided that no law had been broken and instructed the officers to drive me back to work.

All perfectly amicable but a bit embarrassing as this all occurred in front of my boss.

No record was ever made and no harm was done - just a bit of embarrassment and a word from the partners.

I don't take it to work any more though!
