Was thinking of getting another magcharger to replace the one I chucked cause no other light seems to have the hot beam focus of it, but it's such a huge / heavy light. Do you know how the ultra stingers focus compares to the mag, or is it just a general wide focus?

ps- Is anything close to the MC in a focused incan...

I haven't played with one myself but from all accounts the UltraStinger puts out a very tight beam. According to Flashlight Reviews the throw is a bit less than a MagCharger but the overall output is quite a bit less than the Mag, which implies the US beam is tighter than the MC :

If you go to the comparison list and sort by throw the Ultrastinger comes at #6 on the list, MagCharger is #5. I haven't counted the entries in the list but there are well over a hundred. The UltraStinger has perhaps 2.5x the throw of a Surefire P60 or P61 lamp assembly. The list hasn't been updated in a while so some of the newest lights aren't there, but the US still looks like pretty good competition for a Magcharger if you're looking for throw.

On the other hand, a MagCharger with an 1160 and mica spacer is still pretty hard to beat. That's what sits beside my front door at night.

Thanks for the data bridgman. Not much difference as you say.

14.4% by number but remember that 2x the lux does not mean 2x the throw. It takes 4x the lux to have 2x the throw. So the actual difference is lower, and because out eyes don't sense linearly, the difference might be even less.

That being said, the Magcharger still has more throw and more output.

You can try using the Welch Allyn 1160 bulb instead of the stock bulb. Less runtime but more output. Check here for some info about Magcharger mods.

After getting a US, the throw is maybe 30% less at the best focus. Seems it would be the same or better if the reflector shape and the half & half LOP/smooth of it causing a very wide light spill area, were put into the hot spot area too. Where can I get an all smooth reflector. However, the stock one does provide less artifacts.

With at least 1/2 the weight of the MC, it's more handy to use, but since I wanted all throw, probably should have gotten another MC.

Brightness aside, I prefer the beam of my Ultrastinger, which is surprisingly smooth. I also like its size better with regard to the diameter of the body.
