Is there any in here that have experience with Ultrafire batteries. Just saw this Ultrafire 2400mAh 3.7V Protected 18650 battery at DealExtreme. I must say I am really tempted to order some, though delivery first starts at about 25 February.

But it is nice to finally see some protected 18650 batteries with more than 2200mah capacity. Are they worth spending money on? Personally I already have about 8 protected 2200mah 18650 batteries, so I simply don't know if he extra 200mah is worth spending more money on?

whc, you'd be better off spending the extra few dollars and getting the LG 18650's with 2600mAh

Their web page quotes $20 for delivery but you can get Batteryjuntion to send them via USPS global priority if you ask nicely.

Send "MattK" a PM, he's a good guy to deal with.

I'll second that motion. That's exactly how Matt sent me some LG 2400maH 18650 cells back in 2005.

IIRC MattK is on vacation, so he probibly won't answer his CPF PMs. But his staff at batteryjunction should be taking care of things so you can probibly ask them still.

I just purchased some of those LG2600 unprotected cells and was also wondering about killing them due to undervoltage. So they charge just like a normal Li-ion Protected, I can use aw's dsd charger., but I just have to be careful about over discharging the battery right? Humm.. so confusing and I just received 2 in the mail.. Oh, and I will be using it in a Surefire U2 only, so when the light steps down from level 6 to 5 I will recharge them.

Thanks for any help...

It's not quite that critical. When your light starts getting dim- turn it off! Hey, that's not too hard. Just don't continue turning the light on and off- trying to drain every last bit of power. A single 18650 or 17650 is not the problem two rcr123 unprotected batteries would be. THey discharge at a different rate- and can overheat.( did it once already!) Stick with a light that uses a single 18650 or 17650 and unprotected batteries should present very little concern. At worse you might ruin a battery, but it's not that easy to do.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind about the unprotected R123A, though I don't really see a need for unproteted R123a's... So The LG 2600 just charge up like a normal AW 18650? I will try tonight plugged outside away from the house. :).

I have a couple of these that I bought from DX. They are not working for me and I would not recommend them. The issues are:

1). They are a larger diameter that other 18650s and do not fit into my Huntlight FT-01s (I have three of them). The Huntlights do with with the AW 18650 and and Ultrafire unprotected 18650.

2). The wonky contact on the top (look at the pictures on Dealextreme) prevents them from making good contact, either in the Ultrafire charger or in my Pila GL4. Even with a magnet between the cells, contact is sketchy and I would not trust them.

The AW protected cells are the best for sure and the Ultrafire 2400 Mah unprotected cells work for me too.

Buyer beware!

Now I would stick to UltraFire protected 18650s (2400mah) as they are very cheap in Hong Kong. I would now also avoid unpretected cells for fear of over-discharging. Also the UltraFire charger is very good. I also have a DSD charger which also works well but it does not fully charge the 18650s. But it may be safer that way. If anyone is interested, I can arrange for batteries to be sent away (only to CPF members).

However, Fellows, I have a questions. Please tell me what's the mah of Primary Duracell and Panasonic CR123A cells. Thanks.
