Just received my first LED torch. Ordered from Deal Xtreme about 2 weeks ago.

Here are my thoughts...

Opening box: A bit lighter in weight than I expected and I was a little disappointed with this. The tailcap reverse clicky has a good look to it; the size of a 5 pence piece (approx) and has a great grippy feel to it. Has a wrist strap. Overall opinion; not blown away but left me feeling intreigued...

Using it: Looked around for AA batteries - couldn't find any. Took Panasonic AA's out of TV remote, about 6 months old and getting a bit tired. Unscrew tailcap to find orange 'o' ring with grease. Smooth operation, find myself becoming impressed... Insert batteries, screw on tailcap and click clicky switch. Baring in mind it is a sunny day with lots of natural light in my mainly white tiled kitchen; the torch projects a shockingly bright ring on the wall on the other side of the room. Now I am actually blown away - even the cat looked startled. Now it is dark I can put the beam on houses across the street and beyond. On a white wall from a few metres away there is a nice hotspot with a good usable glow around it. A few very faint rings that are barely noticable around the hotspot. The torch got lukewarm after about 10 mins or so but barely noticable and certainly not a problem.

Problems: So far there I can't get the torch to work without the extension tube. I am putting it down to weak batteries and will experiment with the best AA I can get my hands on tomorrow - probably a Duracell. There is some slight battery movement within the tube but not much.

Anything else: The light projected is white with a hint of blue. It could be much bluer and not bother me. I dont know what a lumen really is and frankly I can't say i'm too bothered. All I know is that over about 15 metres or so its more impressive than my old faithful 4D mag due to the colour of the light emitted. And it anhihaltes my 2xAA Maglites. Is it waterproof? It would easily survive rain... don't fancy trying to flush it down a toilet or anything. Just tried shaking it violently and it didn't even flicker.

If anyone has any reservations about ordering this like I did - especially after the poor/mixed reviews I read then I think you should go for it. I am going to check out the Akoray AA 3-mode next I think.

Wasnt really planning on doing a write up but its my first LED flash i've owned and got carried away :)

I'll edit this or add more posts as I discover more...

Cheers
Mark
