I could have sword i read a thread about this, but can't find it after half an hour of searching. According to lightreviews.info the c5 should be a hella lot bright than the c3. Is this true? I thought they were pretty close with just different switches.

The lightreviews only tested the C3 with 1AA. Circuitry to date will only give a little over a watt with 1AA while 2AA is closer to 3 watts.

Lghtreviews tested the C5 with 2AA, CR123 and 16340. So of course there review shows the C5 brighter. What we need is a comparison of the C3 with 2AA-extension tube and the C5 with 2AA-extension tube.

The thread I think you are looking for is
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=167361

But we still do not have the direct comparison. I guess the advantage of the C3 is that it will run on 1AA.

FYI.

Ultrafire C5 amps draws
1xCR123 1A
2xAA 0.9A

Ultrafire C3
1xAA 1.2A
2xAA 0.6A

I measured this myself, i am not an expert or anything so i expect some margin for error. But i think overal Ultrafire C5 IS brighter.

My C3 is as bright with 1 AA as it is with 2 AAs (alkaline cells). However, using 1 cell results 1+ hours of slowly decreasing output, and using 2cells gives just over 2 hours of absolutely constant, regulated output with a sharp drop at the end.

I don't have a C5 to compare output, but I would assume it's brighter, based on the higher current draw on 2AA.
