I was just looking around at dealextreme and came across this http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2049

Has anyone had any experience with that particular model?
I quite like the design, but was just wondering how well it performed compared to all the cree and ssc torches available at the moment.

I saw that one too....it's a nice looking light. Running the K2 at max current (or overdriven) would make it as bright as a Cree or Seoul running at ~700 mA, a current that many lights seem to run the new emitters at. If a light is going to run the K2 at max current (I think around 1500 mA), the 18650 battery is a good choice...it won't over-tax the battery. My DealExtreme Glimt K2 2xRCR123 pulls this current from the batteries...a discharge rate of 2C, pretty much the limit of RCR123's. At any rate, with the new emitters being more efficient, they won't heat up as much, and would have longer runtime for the same brightness.

That one looks exactly like the Huntlight FT01XSE. So if I pop in a Cree X-RE led, would it be blazingly bright at half the price of a real Huntlight?

The only problem I can think of is that the K2 is probably running at a higher current than the Cree could tolerate. It would probably require switching a component inside the driver in order to change the current limit.

I actually quite like the Ultrafire C2, just got it in a little while ago. It has great throw with a fairly big head, and lightly textured reflector (smooth beam) and nice build quality. Mine had a very good tint Cree LED, one of the best of ANY LED (this may be luck of the draw). I also like the switch on it -- one level, feels nice -- firm but not "sticky" like some cheap switches. Great for $24.

Dealextreme was down the other day...I hope Kyle and Kai aren't cyber-attacking each other! I just placed an order with DE, so I figured I'd get the C2 from Kai...mainly just to see how his service is.
