Surefire products tend to be well thought out, so seeing as the AZ2 is designed for holster carry can we expect the amount of turn to activate constant-low and high to be lessened?

With no clip and not the best light for carrying in your pocket the chance of accidental activation is less.

I would definitely like a smaller degree of turn for the AZ2, it would seal the deal for me. The turn needed for the older style lights is too much for my liking.

(Part 2)
Can't tell from the pics but will the LX1 tailcap be smaller then the LX2?
I'm contemplating putting a smaller one of those tailcaps on an E2DL.

Of course we won't know the answer to this for sure until the LX1 is actually released, but it seems probable that the LX1's tailcap will be identical to that of the LX2 and A2L. From a production standpoint, I imagine this would be a lot easier for SureFire, rather than making a unique part for a single model.

And in regards to the E2DL, it's very unlikely that your idea will work. Even if SF were to make a 2-stage tailcap that fit the E-series tail threads (which seems unlikely, as stated above), the E2DL head wouldn't operate properly with such a tailcap. The E2DL's mode switching is based on successive activations of the tailcap within certain periods of time, not the use of a resistor to trigger a secondary (lower) output (as is the case with the LX2, et al.).

Of course, if you're referring to one of the early single-mode E2DL heads, then a 2-stage tailcap could produce the desired effects (and the head should fit on an LX2 body, so you'd be set). Not sure if the low mode would be regulated, or how bright it would be, but it should work as long as it's a single-mode head.

Hmmm you're right about that. I remember someone mentioned it in a thread somewhere.
An E2DL with a LX2 tailcap ended up having 3 modes. Maybe it was the single output version that was used I'm not sure.

I think I remember that thread as well, and I'm pretty sure it was a dual-mode E2DL head. I also know I've read about a few people who have successfully used KL4 heads with an LX2 body/tailcap to get two stages of output. Theoretically this should work for any single-mode E-series LED head, I think.

What about the smaller degree of turn for twist-on for the AZ2?
The Z2 is the same as the 6P, and whilst granted the two-stage TailCap takes more rotations to screw constant-on, I don't think this is a key requirement of a Tactical CombatLight where momentary on/off is critical to the whole 'light and move' and other distraction/deception/disorientation tactics
