Upcoming Lithium Silicon batteries.

Interesting article over at engadget for new Lithium batteries that offer a 30% gain. Supposed to start production in 2012.

The most interesting things for me is:

Are they safe? Personally I'm not that thrilled about safety of the current LiIons except LiFePO4.

Are they compatible? Same voltage and charging schemes (end voltage and max current vs capacity) as todays common LiIon, LiFePo4 variant or is it a third one?

While a little different discharge voltage can be tolerated with yet another charging scheme we need yet another charger (which hopefully can take a lot of sorts).
