Upgrading a Maglight

I know there are LED dropins and various custom heads & bodys for the Maglight. If I want to run the brighest-highest output Incan in a Maglight do I just replace the bulb & batteries or is there a twin pin adapter for higher output bulbs? I can use IMR cells if required. Must I replace the reflector or head to do this?

In my opinion I dislike incandecent bulbs in flashlights. They are significantly dimmer, far less efficient, produce a tun of heat, and there yellow.

But thats just my opinion. If you really love incan's then I suggest putting in a pelican.

Dimmer? :duh2: I have a feeling you have only messed with inferior incans. Overdrive them and them produce a whiter light FYI.

Anyway enough of that, Bob, you are pretty vague in your statement, let us know what kind of Mag host are are wishing to modify, there are TONS of options and combination's available. If you are wanting a lot of output as you stated then Osram builds are the way to go, but first consider which cell format you would like then we can help with the bulb. :)

And most probably you never tried real hotwire.

Yes, stock Krypton bulbs are dimmer compare to SST90
"far less efficient", if you don't drive them properly.
"produce a tun of heat", while it directed out the front and LEDs keep the heat in base so heatsinking is necessary.
"and there yellow", which is more natural and better than blue, green or....

+1 Very well said!

all of above.
there are dozens of ways to turn a regular mag into monster light.
use search button and you'll find hundreds of different mods.
most limiting factor is your budget.

I know a lot of people here prefer incan's over LED's. Didn't mean to upset anyone by saying all that. I just dislike incan's. LED's just make so much since.

I'm interested in making a monster-mag, and have been gathering the parts for it. We'll see what I set on fire...

My rule of thumb is that when I see "CandlePowerForums > Flashlights > Incandescent Flashlights" at the top, I assume that it was deliberately put here. It's certainly good to mention alternatives (multi-LED options), but I rarely do even that.

Did you notice at the top of the page, where it says this is the incan forum?:poke:

Personally, although I do have some LED lights, I prefer incans. They are so much more fun to mess with, they produce real light that you can feel as opposed to a narrow bandwidth glow, and I just don't see where LEDs are so efficient. Sure, the dim ones are current misers, but the bright ones use (and waste) plenty of power, as evidenced by the need for heat sinks. TANSTAAFL.

Bob, you might want to step in with your idea of what kind of light you were wanting to give us something else to talk about before it gets ugly in here.
