Useful application for blue?

I have a blue everled that I received due to a corrected customer service issue (thank you, LED Supply!). After reading the posts about blue color being a more difficult focus for our eyes, and in some cases irritating, what would you suggest for an application (and perhaps suitable host)? It is very bright and the blue color itself is a rich bright blue. My main purpose in getting the everled was for outdoor walking. I have a white, and a cyan on the way for this. Suggestions, everyone? What would you do? Thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
The human eye is not very sensitive to wavelengths at the ends of the spectrum such as Blue and IR; here is a chart of the relative sensitivity of the eye

As you can see, it peaks about 550nm - which is close to Green/Cyan

Thanks for the info; it seams that I made the right color choice for the cyan (when it arrives). But, my "issue" remains, what to do with the blue everled? I don't dislike the blue, I just want the right tool/right job.

Depending on how deep the blue is, it might make some stuff fluoresce.

And in addition, the blues just look cool. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
There are some items that might fluoresce under the blue light, and some do not

We just released a high power 20x LED UV adapter - and it is so cool to turn on in a dark room, its amazing how many things we take for granted glow when exposed to "Black Light"

I am hoping to get my "rock hound" friend in Utah to send me up some FL minerals

Blue is good when looking for BLOOD. Great for tracking downed game. The blue light makes the blood spots look black, and they stand out from their surroundings this way.
 
If you use a big enough gun you won't have to do any tracking at all!
 
Wayne at Elektrolumens shined a royal blue 5 watter at some friends, and they freaked out. Messed their vision up. Was not brightness of light, but blueness of light. Why?
 
Really? If that's true, I wonder why law enforcement doesn't take advantage of something like that. I guess that depends on what freaked out means.

I haven't much call for blood searching or flourescing so far where I live! Still looking for more good blue applications or just useful general practices/situations for it. I tried trading the blue everled for another color one but got no takers from my post in B/S/T.

I like blue LED`s alot. A very beautiful colored beam of light.

I had Wayne Johnson of Elektrolumens make a Surefire C3 mod for me, using a 5w Royal Blue LED, and that flashlight really rocks. And it will temporarily blind anyone who has night vision...if not regular day vision. I carry it in my coat pocket, and would use it as a self defense tool if that would ever be necessary.

I also have blue LED Arc AAA`s and LS`s that put out a nice beam of colored light. The "fun quotient" is extremely high with them, accompanied by a nice "WOW" factor.

As already noted in this thread by Entropy..."blue looks cool!"

Hmmmm... Blue and Purple (UV) LED light bothers my eyes - I don't look directly at the LED, just the reflected light from objects - I can only take it for a very short time and my eyes bother me for about 15 minutes afterward... None of the other colors bother my eyes...

Blue is a very cool looking light. The blue X5T is more impressive than the other colors because its blue. I know the green is brighter, but blue just looks better. It just irritates the eyes if I'm looking at it for a while.
 
Its possible that since the human eye doesn't see Blue as well as the other colors, the Eris and "blink reflex" doesn't cut down the amount of light - and "it hurts"
 
Slightly off topic : theres a new TFT technology being developed that uses less blue pixels, because apparantly our eyes arent as sensitive to blue. Im assuming they use more red and green pixels in the space saved to increase resolution and/or contrast.

Try laying your blue light down on any surface in your house. You'll be amazed how much dirt and dust particles show up, and even cast little shadows. Makes you think about cleaning and dusting a little more often to keep that crap out of your respiratory system.
 
I have noticed that. Kind of unsettling, isn't it? And I have a pretty clean place.

The blue does cast a great looking beam, it's true. I was just thinking that perhaps cyan would be better for my purpose of evening walks for the improved focusability for my eyes.

Hmm, is there an area light for the blue everled? Do you think that'd be a good application? Are there any hosts that are available without polarity mods? I'm not equipped/inclined to do extensive ones.
