I did a very stupid thing. I blew up the light engine to my vb-16 Gen 4:oops:
I put 12volts on the engine.:duh2:
Now it just glows on minimum and thats it.
I want to try to fix it but how do you remove the engine?
Does anyone know how?

Whoa! What did you do, install the extra battery tube and then pop in 4xCR123A?

I suppose you would start by disassembling the head as much as you can. Mine is threadlocked and I don't want to mess with it, so I really don't know.

Perhaps you could go as far as you can, and then post pics so we can try to figure it out together?

I burnt out my 3rd generation light a while ago while doing an SSC mod. Now the emitter just stays at the lowest setting. I have tried to use the old emitter and still the same problem. When it happened there was actually smoke coming out of the light. I may have reversed the wiring or did not have the emitter isolated. Can't remember. Did this a few months ago. I was unable to open the light engine to get to the board. I would like to know too if there is a way to get in there.

Thanks,
Joe

Here are some closeups of the light engine head.

It looks like you can pry out the LED PCB. I'm not sure though.
