Seems there is a newer version of the SLH100P. For those not familiar, these were available from numerous vendors and could occasionally be found heavily discounted at Sam's Club. Here's a link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QURK48/?tag=cpf0b6-20
Anyways I got the newer SLH100V which comes in black. From the marketing photos you'd think its a nice little light like the Amondotech N30. In reality it is much larger and weighs almost 3 times as much (N30 is 3.5 lbs, SLH100V is 9.0 lbs) mainly because the SLH100V uses a lead-acid battery.
Its 35W 6000K where the N30 is 30W 4200K. A quick test shows that the SLH100V is brighter with a little more throw. The bad news is that its not easy to carry for portable ops due to its weight.
I use the N30 as my "horse headlight" for a section of road I travel between the trail and the barn. Works great and cars can easily see me from a safe distance. Thought I would try the SLH100V but its like lugging around a small brick. Probably a good light for the car trunk but not for carrying on the trail for extended distances...
