Very basic 123A safe storage question

Hi all,

Seems I've jumped into the deep end of flashholicism, and now have a bunch of primary 123A batteries and a question about storing them. I also have a related question about shelf life.

First question: can you store these batteries stacked (in the normal position with the positive and negative ends touching each other)?

I'm just not sure if that can trigger some chemical reaction inside the batteries, or if there has to be some kind of load on them in to do that. Would three stacked together be different than two stacked?

Second question is in regards to the estimated 10 year shelf life of these primaries: Once you start using a pair of batteries, say by putting them in a light and using it for a lttle bit, does this shorten the shelf life of the battery or reduce remaining capacity in any way?

In part, I'm trying to understand optimal (and safest) storage conditions, and how long the batteries will last if stored in different ways.

I've been reading CPF (lots!), but haven't been able to find the answers to these questions. I hope I'm making sense, and appreciate any help you all can provide!
