I'm sure this has been discussed before so sorry in advance for that, but I can't seem to find an answer using the search feature or google searching.

What is the original intended use of the WA1185 bulb?

thanks guys,
-Pete

I think it's a medical light used in special microscopes.....:sick2:

we simply use it to make 1KL flashlights.........:grin2:

1KL... lol, I like the sound of that. "Kilo-lumen" has a nice ring to it:D. Yeah, I love my mag85. After being blown away by it though, the first thing people ask me is what the bulb is. I don't really have an answer:shrug:. Any ideas guys?
Thanks again,
-Pete

HAHA! Now you are in my territory. I serviced life-support and medical equipment a few years back until my company was taken over. Now I work in a chemistry lab as a consultant.

The WA1185 series bulbs had a variety of uses in the medical industry ranging from light-analysis equipment to surgical lighting. But, I found when I got my job as a chemist that Fischer Scientific supplies them as (stated above) microscope lighting. Certain models of spectro analysis machines, particle sizers, and x-ray diffraction machines also use them in maintenance and other forms.

Tell your friends that, and I guarantee they will never ask you about your bulbs again.

I believe the first recorded medical use was in an eye-rectumoy procedure for illumination of the nerve to be severed which provides a crappy outlook on life.
