We bought it at a scratch and dent place after seeing the same model at lowes. Why is this in the LED forum you ask? Well this frige has LED lighting and its very cool looking! Its a cool blue light using roughly 10 to 15 emmiters.

I'll get some pics and model # later. It wont be here till this coming saturday. Hopefully the warranty will cover the LED's going out because I dont think I could go to walmart for new lights.

Its a GE profile BTW with french doors and bottom freezer.

Do they turn off when you close the door?

That's a great question, one that never would be asked with an incan light. For the small amount of current draw and heat, you would gain a lot of reliability by NOT having a switch. The switch on my fridge isn't working right and a lot of times I use my Jetbeam to see what's in the back.

Well, I'm glad to hear that somebody is finally building them in! I had to build my own into my new fridge.

I had one of those 20-LED "bulbs" laying around that dim out really quick due to heat, so I stuck mine in the fridge and it works really well..

Nice work on the fridge mod Darrell. Any reason one emitter is not on a star where the other two are?

Yeah, I was trying to find the perfect ballance between focal length, tint and Vf. Very much a lost science you see. Or... the real reason: It is what I had sitting around when the project bug hit me. ;) I'm about to swap it out with a Cree bar, so it'll look much sexier soon. I'll repost when I get to it.

I've since done my bathroom fan light as well. And you'll see yet another mix of emitters.

Care to elaborate on this project? Like how to switch the AC to DC and whatnot?

neat....I wonder why fridges won't mount a light in the freezer section, I can't choose which ice cream I want until I take them all out one at a time:ohgeez:
I wonder how far you could overdrive the LEDs in there:nana:

I had a freezer that burned out its incan bulb. It was an odd shape, about the size of a small cigar with a little screw base. Turns out that a leftover LED emergency light conversion bulb fit fine, lights right up:

There is a slight problem in that all the LEDs were red, which gives the open freezer a slight
  Door-Into-Hell kind of look

I tried to show the actual bulb here. The camera shows yellow, to the eye it is solid red.

WHERE can i find some of those???? That's what our fridge takes, and I'd LOVE to do that! Know of a source?

My fridge has a bulb in the freezer. I haven't bothered changing it yet. I have to stand on my head to get in there for one thing!

Well, I was driving my emitters at 750 mA, but decided to do the smarter thing: Use more emitters at 350 mA. End up with more light and less heat... and more expense of course. :) Here's the third generation of my fridge light now!

I'm almost willing to call it perfect now! I used one red Cree and the rest are white. Warms it up nicely and doesn't make opening the door such a scary experience. ;)

But they're not tactical.

Maybe IR with a custom set of goggles for each family member.

Seriously - good job.

You forgot about strobe... what about stobe??

You have to be able to disorientate potential food invaders!

Darell - I like your solution! And these suckers should be able to survive the cold no problem!
