Hi Everyone,

Up for review is the Weiguo Solutions 12V Spotlight! this light is a handy little guy designed to plug into your car to be used whenever it's needed.
Swisher included quite a few of the kits, and I'll be going over them in the review.

Here are some of the specs from their website, 12Vspotlight.com

  • high power 0.5 watt LED bulb (25+ lumens)
  • colorful anodized aluminum body
  • 180+ minutes of light per charge
  • water resistant / submersible

here is the light:

the Spotlight is offered in many flavors/kits, this one is made for use at home, with a AC adaptor.

This is a Flexible magnetic based holder. useful for when you can't hold it normally.

Impressions (not too many as I'm not sure what to say in regards to this light)
I'll start this part of the review off my saying these arent very bright lights.. I would have liked for Weigo to have switched to Cree XP-Es, or even XP-Gs. for more efficient light, but, I'm not sure that you would need the additional brightness associated with the LEDs. These are pretty much meant to stay in the car just in case you need to , say, read a map in the dark, and the brightness is perfectly fine for that. I could even argue that these small lights almost have too much throw for close range use. Your mileage may vary. :)
The head is pretty easy to activate, making 1 handed use very easy, and, all you need to do to charge is to switch off the light and jam it into the closest 12V car socket.. seems good for non-flashaholics at a cheap price!

Accessories:
there are quite a few accessories you can purchase in additional to the light. In this review shipment, weiguo included what they call the "barkeep", headband, and fender friend.
in my opinion, the fender friend is the most useful!. there is a magnet in the base for sticking it on things, so I've been using these little lights for reading lights.. very effective. now, along the same lines, the headband is nice as I can use that instead of the fender friend, but I normally don't like to attach things to my head.

I accidentally popped off the head while trying to get the spotlight open. seems like it was glued on.
the head contains a oring and TIR (total internal reflection) optic.

there's the spring, battery holder/charger contact, Ni-Mh battery, and LED module. the LED is a SSC P9.

Nice job,I have a couple of these lights and for what it is its quite usefull. The headband looks good have to check it out.

I've got 2 of these always plugged in my car. They are Titanium brand but they are made by the same manufacturer. Runtime is nowhere close to 180 minutes, it does 30 minutes at full intensity and decreases, will run for more than 5 hours.

Very usefull, even though i never use them. There are 7 flashlights in my car, why would I use the least bright one?

The diameter is too small for my Honda Fit Accessory power receptacle (cigarette lighter). Wouldn't you think these power receptacles would all be a universal size?

interesting. the splitter package's splitter is has a slightly smaller diameter.. perhaps that one fits?

Try using an O-ring of the right diameter to take up the slack. Even a rubber band or 2 could work. :grin2:

There's always the Super Socket accessory. The SS should plug into your oversized Honda power receptacle and the 12V Spotlight should be a nice fit into it. It'll even give you a second receptacle.

For the record, it's a perfect fit into my VW GLI's power receptacle.

This is why I prefer the Coast (LED Lenser) Auto LED. Same form factor, but the Auto LED's beam is a perfectly round smooth flood - unlike anything else I would otherwise carry in the car, and the perfect map reading light.

Of course I never read maps anymore, but if I had to...

Thanks for the review and thanks for everyone's posts, we'll definitely put it in our notes for future products.:twothumbs

I've seen them at REI.

I brought these lights with me for Halloween and I found that they worked really well. My friend carried one hanging from his neck and turned on continuously for a little bit more than two hours and the light seemed to be as bright as when he first turned it on. His daughter grabbed mine and promptly dropped it onto the street. No damage done, not even a scratch! I had to keep telling them not to shine it into anyone's eyes, especially mine since I was the one who supplied them with the lights and I was carrying a 180 lumen torch in my pocket  All in all, I'm very impressed by this little light and the quality of it. I'm about to loan mine to a friend of mine who is looking for a small light to use at work to look behind stereo racks and TVs. If he likes it I'll just have to buy a new one to replace it or I'll buy him a new one to match the color of his car.

It would be really nice to have this little candle always in a car...

It would be nice to mod it with magnet also...
