I'm looking for opinions on low self discharge batteries. Currently I'm using Duracell 2650 mAh AA batteries, and I now want to make the change over to cells that hold their charge while maintaining the highest possible capacity. I'm familar with the 2000 mAh Sanyo Eneloops, but I now see the AccuEvolution AA cells are advertised at 2200 mAh. Is this the best way to go or is there something better?

I also assume all LSD NiMH cells can be charged in any charger designed to charge standard NiMH cells.

I just picked up some duracell precharged (duraloops) AA's that seem to have a following here, but be warned...I have seen two versions in the stores, one with a white top made in japan (good ones), the other with a black top that were nade in china (I would never buy these).
One the other hand most people here like eneloops, both kinds are 2000mah.

How are the Imedion AA 2100 mAh ultra low discharge compared to the Eneloops?

Cost vs. performance ratio, Rayovac 4.0.

Definitely agreed.

Someone was going to forward me 48xAA from that good deal that was placed on the MP but unfortunately they ran out of stock. I don't actually need them, but at the price of those Rayovacs recently, it's hard to say no, especially as Duraloops are $27 for a 4pack on the shelves here.

Although it's pretty much universally agreed that the Eneloops are the best, the fact is that most of the rest are pretty good too. Imedions, Rayovac, Cycle energy, various others, whichever one you buy will still be far better than any non-LSD battery.

Definitely agreed.

$27 for 4 pack- that is crazy- they were on sale here not too long ago for something like $6.47 for 4 pack at Target.

$7 for an 8 pack on that good deal, no wonder they went so fast.

I like having a good spread of batteries. At the moment I have eneloops, Recykos, and a few Duraloops and Durablacktops.
I'll hopefully get some Rayovac 4.0 eventually.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. It seems the Eneloops are the favored LSD batteries here on CPF. I'm still tempted to try the AccuEvolution batteries if the 2200 mAh rating is truly accurate.

duraloops, easiest to find at the best price here in the U.S. just get the white topped Japan ones not the Durabrid black tops.

If you search, I believe there is a test of the two LSD NiMH battery brands - Eneloop vs Imedion with graphs. As I recall, the Eneloop allowed for higher current draw, but the Imedion did have slightly greater capacity consistent with the slightly higher MAH capacity. Per comments on CPF, Eneloop and Imedion do have a good track record as low self discharge cells. Unfortunately there appears to be evidence of re-branding of lower quality cells as Eneloop, so purchase from a qualified dealer. I had a couple eneloop cells, but because of discounting at time of purchase, I standardized on Imedion cells.

In my limited experience with Accupower cells from AA to D cell sizes, I found them to be relatively long-lived, but did not seem to achieve the rated capacity. Caveat: the rated capacity is achieved at a 1/10 C rate. None of my chargers have a discharge current as high as a C or D cell would require at 1/10C. Hence I have no data, only opinion - a difficult situation for recommendations. I passed all of my Accupower cells and chargers along to others who had a greater need.

The Accupower chargers are also OK. FWIW, Be careful of any charger with a protective ridge on the charger for the anode on the battery that is too long resulting in no contact. I have had that problem several times now.
