What does the Borealis compare to?

I'm looking for an off the shelf lumen monster and was wondering how the Borealis matched up with other off the shelf lights out there. Being fairly new at this I don't know what the other lights are. I could go the modded route also if it was something fairly simple to mod....Sid

The Borealis is what is known as a "Mag85". You can assemble your own from parts purchased through the B/S/T for about half the cost and very little effort. Search for "Mag85" and you will get a lot of results and info.

The famous "ROP" mod is a bit easier, and with the high bulb is pretty impressive.

if your used to the M85 the ROP might be considered one class below rather than above..considering that it is commonly made using a 7.2V [or equivalent 6 cell] battery pack rather than the Mag85.

the closest thing my 85 compares to is the Mag3D + WA1164 + 8 eneloops, commonly referred to as Mag64 around here:thumbsup:

compared to other incans, for me I found it produces more light then any 1-2million candle power handheld spotlights (all lights that use 6v or 12v 55w lamps running off SLA)

I just love using this light, its such a perfect package of lumens/weight etc.
