Small and powerful? Any other requirements other than less than 200 bucks?? There's like 500 flashlights in that category.

yes.... i am a bit confused... and which one has the best flood and throw? the lumens indicated are not reliable i suppose.
my maximun budget is 200 us dollar.
I will use it for camping and self defense:grin2:

I am sure that you already know dealextreme:

And perhaps you can have a look at the P7 flashlights? They are veeery affordable, and really bright:

Okay, so I assume you want decent runtime, reliable, and easy to carry with you at all times? I think the best sub-200 dollar option is a surefire C2 with malkoff M60 dropin, and is what I will be using as a replacement for my former flashlight, a surefire L4. This light will run for nearly 2 hours at full (regulated, non-dimming) output before it begins to dim. The L4 is actually better suited for this from a design standpoint, but uses an older (not as bright, uses more power) LED and is difficult at best to upgrade. There are a multitude of other lights that will work similarly to the above two, but those are my favorites and I use them for much the same things as you do.

One thing you need to consider is what kind of batteries you want to use. The surefires I mentioned run on CR123A non-rechargable lithium batteries. You can use rechargable lithiums in them but that's a subject worthy of a seperate discussion. If you want to use the more common AA type battery Fenix makes some nice ones that are just as bright as the surefire mentioned above.

One thing you may consider is a 2 stage light, as full brightness is often not needed when camping out, you want longer runtime instead. These use either a pressure switch or an electronic switching mechanism to cycle different brightness levels. I don't have much personal experience with them as they usually trade flexibility for simplicity. I like my flashlights to turn on when I hit the switch, period. The only multi-stage lights I'll consider are ones like surefires where you press lightly for low and hard for high. The surefire L1, L2, and U2 currently feature this interface, but the L1 isn't bright enough for me and the L2 and U2 are a little larger than I'd prefer. Most folks around here seem to like the multifunction lights and get along fine with them though.

For 200$

I would go with a pocketable Dereelight CL1H or a Fenix Tk10.

Then i would buy a good keychain like Fenix L0D Q4, very usefull all year long.

You still have enough money to buy a cheap SSC P7 from Dealextreme.

PS: A Derrelight DBS or Raidfire Spear are also excellent choices.

I think it's a good start for camping.

Now for self defense. We need more infos. Today's flashlight are tiny and more and more expensive, i prefer using bear spray.

i think we are jumping the gun abit here. For less then $200, by far the most powerful is a Mag 2D mod or some sort. The question is, if the OP is okay with using rechargables, or if he will prefer not to be dependant on finding a place with a power supply present. and theoratically, you could use primari lithiums in a 2D mod.

I can highly recommend you to purchase a LUMAPOWER MRV SE.
I think it's all the flashlights "Rolls Royce" a wonderful lamp with
extremly good finisch. a relly nice work.
You can buy it directely from LumaPower (Ricky) to a very good price.

AH! Ok

He asked in led forum and said he was a beginner that's why i excluded MAG85, ROP and SSC P7 mod.

They are all good choices except for batteries setup and runtime.

D.D.

You're going to get dozens and dozens of suggestions to the point where at least your knowledge will grow with your confusion!!

That's a good budget but very rarely does one light do it all !!

There is a really good blowout deal on a $120 light for $55 shipped. That's the Tiablo A9 from dealextreme. That and the Dereelight DBS are mid size throwers that are probably the best in their size catagory. Then a smaller, pocket sized light like the Fenix P2D or P3D to go along with it. You would have the small/medium catagories pretty well covered with just those two lights and have money left over.

Or you could wait for the P7's to get into some lights in full force.

And there are many, many more choices but if by "most powerful" you mean how far the beam will travel with a usuable spot in a small package, you will waste much time looking for anything better than the Dereelight DBS and the Tiablo A9 or A8, in your budget. Good luck!

I'm really surprised the Jet II I.B.S isn't mentioned very much. I know the plastic retaining ring in the tailcap is a discouragement. But it has a wonderful UI, does spot to flood. So it throws better than most 1 cell lights and will light up a large area better than a zebralight with the Jet's head removed. Not to mention there's regulation on both primaries and rechargables. Then there's the infinite brightness selection and the frequency adjustability of the stobe. Is there some other reason I don't know about as to why the Jet isn't such a great light? Would love some input. I've replaced alot of lights with the Jet II I.B.S and could use any info about their possible downfalls.

French Candle, I think you should write down what you need/want in a light(Size, output, beam pattern, multimode or not, runtime and so on). Then post it here.

There are a lot of lights under $200 and not all of them will suit you.

Maybe even a $40 light would work well for what you want. You don't have to spend a lot to get a light that will work for you.

What lights do you have now.

Hello there, welcome to CPF!

Get a Surefire 6P Defender:

Then add this drop in:

Malkoff M60L

http://www.malkoffdevices.com/shop2/images/DSC00253.JPG

You have a great all around light with crenelated teeth for self defense.

If you dont like to mod and you want to use the light right out of the package I suggest you check the Surefire E2D defender

Although I would not advice relying merely on light for SD, it's better than nothing. Just get the right training and practice.

The 6P with the M60 is roughly the same number of lumens as the A9 mentioned above, but how big a difference does the larger reflector of the A9 make?

the A9 is a thrower light, where as the M60 is more of a all around light, great for camping too!

Surefire 6p with a m60,although I've never owned one a a9,Infinity defender for the aa side...You can mod a m@glite with a p7,Malkoff or several other mods to achieve awsome brightness. What are you using it for and what do you expect it to do?

for true self defense a light is not enough. it is true that it will stop someone in their tracks if it is bright enough, but if that is not enough and they decide that they want you, and all you have is a flashlight, then they have you. The same goes for peperspray, tasers, batons, and stun guns. you would be suprised what a person on drugs can withstand. for true self defense you need a knife, or the best defense tool, a gun. i do not know what it is like over in france, but if it is like it is here in america, you need something serious to defend yourself with. ANYWAY... a fenix tk10 would fit both of your needs fairly well. {and you will still have $130 left:D}

Any Surefire light you like that takes a P60/P90 style bulb.
My personal favorite is the C3-HA. Buy a Malkoff Devices M60 and you're good to go.

I have a Surefire M3 with MN11 high output bulb in it, rated by Surefire at 225 lumens. The Malkoff M60 is brighter than the M3, and battery life is about 7 times longer.
the best defense tool, a gun.
